Run Your Own Dollar Store at the Flea Market

Melanie L. Marten
Dollar stores are hugely popular in the marketplace today. Almost every shopping mall has one. People love getting items cheap. This is also true at the flea market. Now you can combine your flea market business with the dollar store concept and really cash in.

Flea Market Dollar Store - Merchandise

If you decide to operate a dollar table or booth at the flea market, you will most likely be selling new merchandise. Of course, you can also sell items that you make or get from friends and relatives, or buy at the thrift store or garage sales.

Finding wholesale sources for dollar store items is not that challenging online. However, you will most likely have to get a reseller's license. Some wholesale companies that sell below dollar flea market merchandise require large bulk orders. Some have lower minimum purchases. With a bit of research for wholesale dollar store items, you will even find the suppliers for the brick and mortar dollar stores in your town. You can order from these yourself if you are prepared to accept a very large bulk order.

Flea Market Dollar Store - Marketing

The absolute best way to market your dollar store flea market table or booth is with a large, prominent banner. This banner should proclaim that your flea market table holds items that are only one dollar each. It is also important to display if sales tax is included or to be added to the dollar.

Including sales tax in the dollar you charge people at the flea market is much easier on the customers. Many people at flea markets do not understand that sales tax must be charged on the sale of new items and might complain. Avoid this by including it in the price. Selling the item for approximately ninety-three cents plus sales tax will still leave you a good profit.

Running a dollar store business at the flea market is really easy. There is no haggling with the customers or keeping track of different prices on your table. When every item is just one dollar, they sell quickly and easily. Finding wholesale suppliers, advertising the dollar store prominently at the flea market, and keeping a wide smile and an open hand will make you lots of money at your dollar store business.
