At level five in RuneScape fishing, RuneScape players can fish for Sardines using a fishing rod and bait. At level 10 fishing, the players can catch herring along with the sardines. Players can expect to get 4,000-8,000 fishing experience and 5,000-14,000 cooking experience an hour. The two best spots are Al-Kharid and Draynor village. Both spots are very close to a bank for storing. Low-level players must watch out for the level 14 scorpion in Al-Kharid and level seven dark wizards in Draynor. The dark wizards do significant damage for level seven and must be taken seriously.
Level 15 in RuneScape Fishing allows for Anchovies to be caught along with shrimp. Anchovies and shrimp are caught using a small net in Draynor village and Al-Kharid. RuneScape players gain 6,000-7500 fishing experience and 5,000-10,000 cooking experience per hour small net fishing. Anchovies are in demand and sell for over 150 RuneScape gold cooked. Unlike most foods, anchovies are worth more cooked than raw. A RuneScape player ceases to burn anchovies at level 33 cooking. Players should train cooking on other foods while banking the anchovies until they hit 33 cooking.
At Level 20 in RuneScape fishing, trout is fished using feathers and a fly fishing rod. Trout alone earns the player about 14,000 fishing experience and 10,000-18,000 cooking experience per hour. At level 30, the player can now catch salmon. Salmon give 70 fishing experience as opposed to 50 for trout. Cooking salmon grants 90 cooking experience as opposed to trout which gives 70 experience. Generally for every three trout caught, a RuneScape player catches 2 salmon. Fly-fishing gives the fastest fishing experience for free RuneScape players. As the player's fishing level increases, experience will come slightly faster.
There are two locations where F2P RuneScape players can fly fish, Lumbridge and Barbarian village. RuneScape players prefer to use Barbarian Village, as it is closer to a bank than Lumbridge. Some players powerlevel their fishing by either dropping or giving away the fish they catch. Other F2P players will bring a hatchet and tinderbox and cook the fish before dropping.
At level 35, F2P players can harpoon tuna. The only F2P tuna spot is in Musa Point in Karamja, a significant distance from a bank. Even with the Explorers Ring 3 cabbage port, it is still a good walk. Each tuna grants 80 fishing experience, but catching tuna is slow and they retail for only around 100 RuneScape gold.
At Level 40, F2P players can catch lobster. Lobsters are caught using a lobster pot. Lobster grants 90 fishing experience but are slow to catch. A full inventory can take over 3-5 minutes to catch. Lobsters are good for making RuneScape gold, which can offset the slow fishing experience and long trips.
Level 50 is when RuneScape players can catch swordfish. Once level 50 fishing is obtained, RuneScape players harpooning for tuna will also catch swordfish. Rates of swordfish to tuna are almost even, with the player getting roughly five swordfish to every six tuna. RuneScape players gain 100 fishing experience per swordfish, but the fish come slowly. Swordfish, however, are the best F2P one-bite food in the game as well as the fastest F2P cooking experience other than wine. Swordfish are in high demand and players can make a lot of RuneScape gold with swordfish. Some players drop or sell the tuna at the general store to save travel time. Trees west on the volcano are a wood source should the player seek to cook the tuna.
F2P fishing is a lot more difficult than P2P with the exception of Anchovies, with Draynor and Al Kharid remaining the best places to catch Anchovies. Anchovies, Lobsters, and Swordfish make good money, while fly-fishing Trout and Salmon provide the best F2P RuneScape fishing experience.
