RuneScape Game Review

RuneScape is a FREE MMORPG created by Jagex. It also has a membership for $5 per month that unlocks an outrageous amount of stuff to do and places to go. RuneScape is a Java based game that plays right in your browser window, with no installation required (Runs as a Java Applet). It currently has over 100,000 players almost all the time. It is one of the largest RPGs I have ever seen.

Quests

There are currently 18 quests for free players and 108 more quests for members. They range drastically in plot and most of them are pretty entertaining. For some of them, you may have to simply get a few items for a cook, to traveling through hours of dungeons. You will no doubt stay busy with quests for many years.

Skills

There are 15 skills free players can level up and members have an additional 8 skills. They, like the rest of the game are very vast, and range from the usual strength, attack, and defense to construction and farming.

Weapons and Armor

All of the weapons and armor, with a few exceptions are all well organized. Each type of metal contains the same types of weapon and armor. The types of weapons/armor are, in order from worst to best; wooden (shield only), bronze, iron, steel, black, mithril, adamant, rune, and dragon. There are also special weapons and armor for mages and rangers, which also are very broad.

Enemies

There are innumerable beasts and enemies in the game that you can kill. They range from spiders, to giants, to dragons. Unlike some games, you will never run out of enemies to kill, which makes training much more enjoyable and less of a waiting game. There are some enemies in the game that you cannot even take on by yourself, and you must fight it with multiple people. This can make it very exciting.

Servers

RuneScape has setup their servers right, unlike many games. They have 144 different servers that the time of this being published. They have multiple all over the world, so you will never have to worry about lag on the servers. You are also NOT limited to a character on a single server. This means if one is full, or if you want to meet up with someone on a different server, you can just logout and switch servers.

Other Members Benefits

There are over 8,000 items, 600 types of monsters, 27 minigames, the ability to build a home, a much larger map to explore, and new content almost every week. There is also much more related to skills.

Misc.

The biggest complaint about RuneScape is the graphics. Although they are cutting edge for Java based games, they do lack in comparison to many other games. The big upside to it is that you can run it on almost any computer and the load times are very short. The graphics are not terrible though. The biggest downside with them is that they do not use large (if any) textures in some places, so some place can look somewhat boring. They are improving this by adding 3D grass and gravel to a lot of places. One of the other complaints about RuneScape is the number of immature kids that play it. If you are easily annoyed by retarded comments, either steer clear, or disable all talk. Another minor problem is there are a lot of Chinese macros. This isn't really a huge problem for the common player though. You will just see a lot of level 3 characters walking around in the default clothes cutting down trees.

Overall: 8.5/10

This is an amazing game. It is extremely addictive and if you are fine with games that don't have cutting edge graphics, you should seriously consider checking out this game. There are many fan sites, so you will have plenty of places to find help if you get stuck with something.
