Runescape: A Guide to Rune Mysteries, a Free to Play Quest

Before you can start making your own runes you have to do this quest. Runes help you cast spells to raise your magic skill. Many spells are used for combating monsters but there are also some teleportation spells, alchemy, and smithing spells. Teleporting is a huge timesaver since it cuts out a lot of time that was spent walking around from city to city. Making your own runes will save you money and help you put your money into other skills.

Now to start this quest you just need to talk to the Duke of Lumbridge, he is in the castle on the second floor. He will give you an item that he found and ask you to take it to the head wizard at the Wizard's tower. Now if you check your inventory you should have an item called an Air talisman. You will need to make your way to the Wizard's tower just click on your world map tab and wait for the map to load. Now you should see that the tower is just south west of Lumbridge. Be careful since you will have to go through some dangerous places so keep an eye out for aggressive non player characters or NPC's. Just run away from any threats anything you run across you can out run right now. You can fight them, but you should only do this if you are sure you can kill them with out dieing.

When you get to the tower you will need to climb down the ladder and find the head Wizard Sedridor. He will tell you that through recent research at the tower they have found a way to create runes for the first time. He will then ask you to take a research package to a shop keeper in Varrock, Aubury. Open your world map again and make your way to Varrock. Aubury's shop is located just south of the east bank. If you have a low combat level you will need to wear armor and bring a weapon to defend yourself against a mugger. After you make it to the rune shop you will want to click on Aubury to talk to him. He will take the package and give you his notes on the research to give back to the head wizard. You will need to go back to the Wizard's tower and make sure that you bring the notes with you. Remember to climb down the ladder again since the head wizard is in the basement. Now talk to him one last time and give him the notes from the shop keeper. Now both of these character's will be able to teleport you to the rune essence. You will want to bring a pickaxe with you since it is impossible to gather the essence without mining it.

Congratulations you have completed this quest! You will be rewarded with one quest point, an air talisman and the free teleport to the essence through Aubury and the head Wizard. There are only three other wizards that will teleport you to the Rune Pure Essence Mine, but only if you are on a member's world. They are the Wizard Cromperty in the city of Ardougne, just north of the market, the Wizard Distentor he is in the Magic Guild in the city of Yanille and Brimstail who is in the Tree Gnome Stronghold, he is inside of a cave southwest of the gnomes bank Jagex has put a mining requirement on mining essence for free to play you can mine it at level one, but if you want to make member's runes you will need to mine it in its pure form. To mine essence in its pure form you will need to have level 30 mining and be on a members world.
