RuneScape Guide to Successful Composting

How to Make and Use Compost and Supercompost for Profit

David Farrell
In RuneScape, compost and supercompost play an essential role for RuneScape players training the RuneScape farming skill. Compost enriches the soil, which helps prevent disease while increasing crop yield. There are two types of compost in RuneScape, Compost and Supercompost.

It is recommended to treat Limpwurt, most or all herbs, and vegetables above tomato with supercompost. Compost and supercompost can also be used on any other RuneScape farming patch, with the exception of the evil turnip patch. Note that even in cases where the crop is disease free, such as sweetcorn with a scarecrow or herbs in Trollheim, supercompost is still recommended

To make compost, use weeds or any item that can be grown by farming with the empty compost bin. If in doubt, the item can be used with the gardener who will say whether or not it makes compost and if so, what type. Tomatoes make rotten tomatoes; if making compost, at least one other item has to be mixed in.

There are four compost bins in RuneScape. A compost bin is included in each full RuneScape farming patch, near Falador, north of Ardougne, at Catherby, and Port Phasmatys.

Supercompost is made by using only items that are eligible, without mixing in any other items. Pineapples are the easiest item to obtain, but calquat fruit and coconut shells can be easily purchased on the grand exchange as well.

Weeds and Woad leaves are the best items for making ordinary compost. Weeds, unlike other items, are put in all at once. Woad leaves are stackable, taking up only one inventory space.

After the compost bin is full, it must be closed so that the contents can begin to rot. Contents take roughly 35-90 minutes to rot, after which the compost bin can be opened. Empty the compost bin by using a bucket on the bin; doing so will fill all buckets in inventory one at a time until all 15 bucketfuls of compost are removed from the compost bin. Making compost grants 4.5 farming experience per bucket filled and 18 experience per bucket used. Supercompost grants 8.5 and 26 farming experience respectively.

Supercompost is currently worth just under a thousand RuneScape gold so from a financial standpoint, a RuneScape player would profit by using Supercompost on most herbs. From an experience standpoint, having a greater chance of a healthy plant is worth the expense, considering RuneScape players are limited in how much farming expeience they can gain by the time it takes their plants to mature.
