RuneScape Mint Cake Update to Initiate Epic Mint Cake Crash

Mint cakes are going to crash, plain and simple. They were never worth six million, and now the recent merchanting by rich players has caused Jagex to tweak the game.

Every player receives a mint cake during or after the Path of Glouphrie quest by giving tangled toad legs to Longramble. In addition to this, RuneScape players can receive mint cakes, grand tree seedpods, and gnome scarves as a reward from the gnome restaurant minigame.

Mint cakes when eaten restore 100% of the RuneScape player's run energy when eaten. Although mint cakes restore more energy than any other RuneScape item, a super energy potion 4 is more efficient now restoring 40% energy per dose, for a total of 160% run energy since energy restoration of foods was doubled during the June 9th, 2009 Run Energy update.

During fall 2009, the high level, rich RuneScape players suddenly bought out the entire supply of mint cakes on the RuneScape grand exchange and began to buy and sell them for prices ranging up to ten million coins. Because mint cakes are a replaceable item, RuneScape players ceased eating them and began to hoard and play for more mint cakes. Undoubtedly, there are many RuneScape players who own stacks of mint cakes.

Jagex put a knife into the RuneScape mint cake economy with the Feb. 1st, 2010 update. According to the official RuneScape news, the Gnome restaurant rewards have been changed s that the RuneScape player gets mint cakes and grand tree seedpods more frequently. According to RuneScape Wikia, a site updated by players, mint cakes are received in groups of ten very often! Test runs on Gnome Restaurant minigame confirmed this, out of seven hard rewards there was one reward of eight grand seed pods, one reward of eight mint cakes, and one reward of ten mint cakes.

So how are RuneScape players handling the update? Logging into world 2 and walking to the rares area of the grand exchange, mint cakes were being bought and sold for between 300k and 1m ea or being traded for items. Grand tree seed pods were being traded for as low as 75k.

On the day of the update, mint cakes spiked 5% on the grand exchange and were being bought out. Expect mint cakes to crash once RuneScape players realize how easy it is to get them.
