Runescape: The Noobs

The Rules to the game may state that a noob is the same as a new player, but nothing could be further from the truth. A Newbie is a new player, a noob is an insulting name given to those who annoy or are immature. There is no cookie cutter explanation for why there are so many noob characters on Runescape, but one could argue that there are indeed different types of noobs.

Begging noobs.
This type of noob is often found in banks, spamming "Please my account was just hacked", "Please I died and lost everything", "Please I was scammed", and "Please give me money". If someone is begging for items you should ignore them, you cannot report them for scamming. If you do give in to their demands, you will have to block them since they will not stop asking you to do things for them or give them things for free.

Scamming noobs.
There are many scams out there trade-scamming, password scamming and item scamming. You should always be aware of how much an item is worth and double-check your trades in the second screen to avoid becoming a victim of a scammer. There are also some scams you need to be aware of before you play.

Trimmed armor comes from treasure trails, which is a mini quest game on member's worlds. While it is possible to have trimmed armor to sell on a free to play world no one has the ability to take regular armor and "trim" it. The scammer will end up taking your armor leaving you with nothing to wear during your combat training. Most scammers will try to convince you other wise, you should report them and warn any player that is about to fall for the scam.

Free gem cutting can be a scam, you should never trade someone items with out something else in return. If the player does not offer up cut gems in the trade window for your uncut gems then it could be a scam. They could take your gems while you wait for them to cut and return them. Many people are aware of the scam and how to trade for cut for uncut gems correctly. Players do this for free because cutting the gems gives them crafting experience.

Trust me with ___ item, no one should ask to gain trust from you this way. If you give an item to another player there is no way to know that they will give it back to you. If someone asks you to trust them and you are following them make sure you aren't being lead into a trap. The majority of new players do not realize that there is a danger in heading north, the wilderness. Now in the wilderness other players can and will kill you, if a player has attacked someone recently they will have a scull and bones over their head. Most player killers or pkers work together in groups, teams or clans to lure other players into the wild. Not all clans PK and the ones that do, do not necessarily use this method to kill other players.

Password scamming comes in a few different forms. There is the promise of free stat upgrades, the promise of free memberships and then the claim that Jagex does not let you say your password in chat. Of course, all three of these the end is the same the scammer gets your password and can take your account. Jagex has added in the bank pin feature so that if you do get scammed out of your password the items in your bank should be safer then without a pin. You will want to set a pin as soon as you get off of Tutorial Island. Just talk to the banker and set a four number pin that you will have to remember.

High leveled noobs.
Sometimes higher leveled characters exhibit noobish behavior. It is best to remember that being a noob is not a level, but a way they interact with others in the game. Just because they have played the game longer or only worked on training their combat skills does not mean that they are better then you. Some people let their characters levels get to their head; just remember that other people do have feelings no matter how low the level.

Kill stealing noob.
In multi combat areas it is possible for two or more players to kill a monster. While this is a helpful feature for higher-level monsters, it can also lead to kill stealing. Kill stealing is a form of bullying, who ever takes out the most hit points will get the drop. It slows down the training for the lower combat character and eventually forces them to leave. This is also the case in the mining skill since there are only so many rocks with ore available at a time a high-level miner can steal all the ore.

Hacking noob.
Since Runescape consists of doing repeating the same sort of tasks repeatedly some players use bots to do the leveling for them. This of course is against the rules auto mining, auto fishing and other such programs are strictly forbidden in the rules. Jagex will ban your account for using cheats. Since bots cannot always bank there will be a stack of items at their feet, they will not respond in chat, and they will only have one skill showing up in the high scores. Not answering in chat is not always a sure way to tell if they are cheating since many players turn off their public and or private chats to ignore other players. Having a low combat level is also not a good indicator of cheating; some players make non-combat characters for fun.

Reasoning with noobs can be a waste of time most players just use noobish behavior as a funny way to egg other players on. Try not to take what they say personally since most of them
