RuneScapeSmithing and Moneymaking Guide, Cannonballs

RuneScape members can smelt cannonballs from steel bars. Smelting cannonballs has become a better way of making money in RuneScape since the renewed interest in the dwarf cannon weapon after the release of Forgiveness of a Chaos Dwarf quest.

Requirements for making cannonballs are having level 35 in the smithing skill as well as completion of the Dwarf Cannon quest. Dwarf Cannon quest has no requirements. Access to the Edgeville, Neitiznot, or Port Phasmatys furnace is strongly recommended to save time banking. Edgeville requires completion of Varrock Achievement Diary easy tasks. Port Phasmatys furnace requires completion of Priest in Peril quest, and a ghostspeak Amulet saves time banking. Use of Neitiznot furnace requires completion of some harder Fremennik quests.

Cannonballs can only be made if the RuneScape player has ammo mould in inventory. Nulodian, the dwarf engineer, sells ammo moulds to players for five coins each. Ammo moulds are non-tradable so buying from Nulodian is the only source in RuneScape. Nulodian is located at the entrance to the dwarven mines, on the plateau south of Ice Mountain.

Cannonballs are made using steel bars with a furnace. It takes about three minutes to smelt a load of 27 steel bars. Each steel bar makes four cannonballs and grants 25.75 smithing experience.

RuneScape players should stock up on supplies and head to a furnace. An ammo mould is also needed. RuneScape players have two methods of making cannonballs; either buy steel bars or smelt ore and coal.

Method one allows 36 cannonballs to be made each trip to the furnace. First the bars are smelted and then are made into cannonballs in two separate actions per trip. It is possible to smelt and process 270 steel bars an hour

The second method is for RuneScape players to withdraw from bank 27 steel bars and an ammo mould and make 108 cannonballs per trip. A RuneScape player can expect to smelt over 450 steel bars per hour this method.

Use of facilities on Neitiznot or completion of easy Varrock Diary for use of Edgeville furnace are necessary for obtaining 450+ bars per hour for maximum RuneScape money making.. The Port Phasmatys furnace is comparable in distance.

Depending on prices, RuneScape players can expect to make between 50K and 200K RuneScape money an hour smelting cannonballs. RuneScape players can also earn up to almost 12k smithing experience per hour and be able to multi-task while the cannonballs are being smelted.

To calculate the profit, add up the money spent on materials per bar. Then subtract this money from the money four cannonballs sell for. Multiply this money amount by how many cannonballs per hour to calculate hourly profit.
