Running Back Jerome Harrison Goes for 286 Yards in Browns Vs. Chiefs Game

Washington State Cougars Alum Jerome Harrison Rushes for 286 Yards in Browns Win

Jerome Harrison had a huge game in the Browns vs. Chiefs game this morning. Browns running back Jerome Harrison went off for 286 rushing yards on 34 carries and with the help of returner Josh Cribbs helped the Browns to beat the Chiefs for their second straight win of the regular season. They now have three wins on the year, and hopefully more eyes were opened in the front office that will actually give Jerome Harrison the chance to carry the ball more often in the near future.

We wrote back in 2008 with this article that the Browns were under-using Jerome Harrison, and that they needed to wake up and use him more as the lead running back in the coming games and the 2009 season. When Jamal Lewis was out for a couple of games Harrison had posted big numbers in his place, but for some reason the Browns weren't willing to try Harrison as the full time running back. It really made no sense as the Browns were playing terribly, and it wouldn't have hurt anyone to allow Harrison to have a little time in the spotlight. This season has been another bust for the Browns, and again Harrison was only used on certain plays with Chris Jennings and Jamal Lewis getting a majority of the work once again.

today with Jamal Lewis on the sidelines, the Cleveland Browns finally let Jerome Harrison take a number of the runs again, and boy did he impress everyone around the NFL. On 34 carries Jerome Harrison rushed for 286 total yards, three touchdowns, and on those carries averaged 8.4 yards per rush. He also caught two passes for 12 receiving yards, and really set up the Browns well to pick up the win on Sunday. Going with a running attack behind Jerome Harrison really turned out to be a great idea, and those fantasy football players that have gone with Jerome Harrison recently were certainly rewarded with a huge game.

This was by the far the biggest game of the short career of running back Jerome Harrison. Coming into the game, he had only been given the ball 88 total times, and during a four year career he has only rushed the ball 165 times. He had also average 4.5 yards per carry in his career, numbers that were well worth giving him a chance at being the starting running back. When he was allowed to carry the ball a lot back in week four against the Cincinnati Bengals he ran for 121 yards on 29 carries, and that should have shown the Browns that he could be a very talented back. It's time once again to nudge the Browns, and hope that in the coming weeks they let Harrison prove why he was one of the best running backs in college football the year he turned pro.
