Running Game Still King in Football

With the recent kickoff of the 2006 football season the NFL was once back again on the NBC television network.

The game that kicked things off was the Pittsburgh Steelers verses the Miami Dolphins.

Even though the Steelers were without their starting star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and had to use backup Charlie Batch they still managed to win by a final score of 28-17. This was accomplished largely due to their running game.

It brought back the reminder that running the ball is still the key to winning in the NFL. The Pittsburgh Steelers proved that fact once again with the victory.

The Steelers finished the game with over 140 total rushing yards. Of those yards 115 were provided by team running back 'Fast Willie Parker.'

After acquiring the pass minded quarterback Dante Culpepper from Minnesota earlier this year some football pundits had picked Miami as a team possible headed to this year's Super Bowl that's being held this year in their hometown.

Even though Culpepper had decent passing numbers of 18-37 for a total of 262 total yards their running game was nonexistent.

The stingy Steelers defense held the Dolphins to an embarrassing just under 40 total rushing yards for the game.

Since the days of the much feared Pittsburgh 'Iron Curtain Defense,' to today with their five Super Bowl rings the Steelers are still showing the need for a good running game to win consistently in the NFL.
