Running Groups in Louisville, Kentucky

If you're a runner in the Louisville, Kentucky or surrounding area, you may want to consider joining a running group. Many runners like to run alone, but there are those who would like the camaraderie and socialization of a group that shares common interests. Additionally, running groups are structured with regular running schedules, races, meetings, etc. and people who are serious runners like this arrangement. If you live in Louisville, Crestwood, Prospect, or even New Albany or Jeffersonville, Indiana, and you want to join a running group, you won't have to go far. The following is a list of the larger official running groups centered in the Louisville, Kentucky area.

Iroquois Hill Runners

The Iroquois Hill Runners promote, host and provide support for running races. They offer training for serious competitors to informal group runs for those people with various abilities. They also have a number of social events.

Membership is $15.00 a year and entitles you to run in any club sponsored races for $2.00. The Iroquois Hill Runners also has a newsletter, The Lookout, which is included as part of the membership fee.

Derby City Athletic Club

The Derby City Athletic Club (DCAC) is not only for runners, but for walkers, tri-athletes and disabled atheletes. They provide education and instruction to runners/walkers of all abilities including general fitness to those who are competitive athletes. The DCAC supports, promotes and hosts various events which aid charities and different causes.

All ages are welcome to join DCAC. Membership costs $20 for the first family member, while each additional member is $10. Cherokee Road Runners

The Cherokee Road Runners has existed since 1977 and is a recreational running club. Joggers, racers, and walkers are welcome as the Cherokee Road Runners aims to promote running and walking in the Louisville area. They have races that range from 3000 meters to 50-k which are held throughout the year.

Additionally, the Cherokee Road Runners offers informal weekend runs every Saturday and Sunday at different distances and paces. To join, go to their website at www.cherokeeroadrunners.org/ and download their application. Membership is $15.00 per year and family membership is $20.00 annually.
