The South Carolina Trail Runners club is based in Aiken, S.C. but accepts runners from other surrounding areas of the Upstate. The runs they sponsor are a series of 4 events that are held throughout the state of South Carolina over the course of a year. These events are low key and your only goal is to get across the finish line. These are also no nonsense, no frills runs, but the upside of that is you aren't charged the hefty entry fees that a lot of clubs tack onto their events. For the runs sponsored by the South Carolina Trails Runners Association there are no entry fees, however they do accept donations. A couple of their upcoming events would be the Fats Forty , which takes place Sunday ,October 4th at 7:30 A.M. and the Chattooga river 5K run which takes place on Sunday, June 7th at 8 A.M. Visit their website for more information on these and other runs they will be sponsoring throughout the year. The Greenville Track Club is the 2nd oldest running club in the Upstate of South Carolina. Established in 1972, it continues to grow and add new members daily. Members include those of every ability level and age group. They sponsor many trail runs and walks throughout the year. They also have summer track and field meets. The best thing about this club is that they sponsor numerous social activities throughout the year for their participants. These include group picnics, fun runs and walks, track and field meets and even an awards banquet. Membership rates are $25.00 for an individual, $30.00 for a family and $10.00 for student. These membership rates are for the entire year and with it you receive plenty of opportunities to get together with fellow runners. All GTC members also become members of the Road Runners Club of America with full benefits.
Runners From Hell is a runners club that is based in Lancaster S.C. and this group features a unique set of individuals who like to get together, have fun and push the limits of the marathon distance. This is a nationwide club with members in FL, TN, and Texas as well as S.C. a new membership is $30.00 and you get the famous RFH t-shirt that comes along with it. On these runs you are challenged to get points which you can exchange for various prizes and running opportunities. The events sponsored by this group are some of the best to be found in the Upstate. An example of points you can receive is 15 points per every 10 miles you hike on one of the trails. You also get points for participating in the Big Butt 50K race and other events.
