Runway to Real Life: Summer Makeup

Some of the trends on tap for fall faces won't look quite right until temps cool back down-think plum lips, blood-red nails. But a few of the makeup looks painted onto models sporting fall '08 designs at NYC fashion week are actually perfect for summer, too. And the best part? They can be achieved with products on the shelves right now. Here, we've picked four ahead-of-the-curve cosmetics moves perfect for summer-that you won't have to abandon come September.

Stained Lips

To keep tresses from sticking to your pout scoop up on the coming-soon trend of subtly stained lips. At Donna Karan's show bright, glittering fabrics in yellows and reds were paired with lips with the lightest of blushes. Lorac does a great lip stain; choose their Sheer Wash in Sheer Emotion, a juicy raspberry hue.

A Bare Face

At the Giles show models were braided and bare: on their face, that is. While Giles showed a nearly nothing face with a dramatic lip color, the latter should wait for fall. But you can get a jump on shedding the veil of visible foundation with a translucent tinted moisturizer; it's a summer friendly look and feel since a tinted cream tends to feel lighter and more breathable in humidity. Stila's got a brand new oil-free tinted moisturizer with SPF 30 that, once applied, you will think has evaporated-until you catch a glimpse of your evenly colored skin in the mirror.

Nude Lipstick

Tuleh, too, embraced the stripped-down look, forgoing strong color on cheeks and lips on their fall runway. Lips were painted, but in the most perfect of nudes. It's a move that works perfectly for summer when our sun-kissed skin tends to need a bit less embellishment. Copy the look with Clinique's Long-Last Soft Shine Lipstick in Creamy Nude.

Smokey Eyes

Cosmetics titan Jane Iredale's artists painted on seriously smoky eyes for models walking Eventide's runway. Here too a loud lip was present, but we love the look with lip stain or a petal pink for sexy summer nights. Iredale's own eye pencil in Black/Grey paired with her won't-move-from-your-lid-until-midnight Eye Gloss in Grey Silk captures this sultry trend to-a-T.
