The problem with many of Rush Limbaugh's critics is that most of them are liars and saboteurs. They have always detested and distrusted conservatism and are actively seeking to undermine or destroy it. No intellectually honest Republican should trust or follow the advice of anyone who states or implies that Republicans ought to be more like Democrats. If people want someone who is more like a Democrat let them vote for a Democrat. Who actually wants Democrat Lyte when you can have the real thing?
When it comes to conservatives Rush Limbaugh appears to be the real thing. His radio talk show is an endless telethon for billionaires. If you listen to his economics pronouncements you will find that it is a lot of hand wringing about the calamities that will befall us as a people if some billionaire doesn't get to keep his yacht and corporate plane. How Limbaugh has fooled 20 million people into thinking that they need to keep the wealthy rich, I will never know. However, corporate welfare and a telethon for billionaires is standard conservative fare. You can not be a true economic conservative in America if you do not believe in these things. Whenever Bush gave a no bid contract to some of his or Cheney's old corporate buddies, all true conservatives lauded this very non egalitarian practice because the rich were getting paid. More recently, every conservative worth his salt decried the grave injustice that would be perpetrated if the very same geniuses who have nearly bankrupted the US and the world did not get retention bonuses at taxpayer expense. To be fair though, I for one support these retention bonuses on the following principle. If you let these economic viruses jump ship and infect another corporation they will destroy what is left our economy. Better to pay these financial weasels hush money to stay in the filth and ruin of their own making as long as they will promise not to do stupid anywhere else. Keep running your own company into the ground, but leave the rest of us alone.
Rush Limbaugh also backed Bush's illegal, unnecessary, and immoral war in Iraq. As all true conservatives did. Limbaugh also backed Bush's policies on torture, lying about torture and sending people to other nations to be tortured. Which are essential conservative policies.
The dust up between RNC chair Michael Steele and Rush Limbaugh was quite puzzling. For Steele it was the equivalent of buttering your muffins with slime mold. After covering your food with a noxious substance, for reasons you can no longer fathom, the only thing you know for sure is you are not going to eat that crap sandwich. What I found most confusing about the Steele affair was: How could Republicans have chosen Steele? Was this a dumbest man in the room contest? If Steele was the least bit awake he should have noticed when an elected Republican official, crawled on his hands and knees before Limbaugh, kow towed, apologized and begged to have Limbaugh's children. If you are the head of the RNC, you'd have to be some kind of idiot to invite the same humiliation for yourself. So Steele must be some kind of idiot. And then Steele proceeds to tell weak and foolish lies about what he did and what his intent was. The final blow was when Limbaugh himself correctly identified Steele's job as keeping Democrats from selecting the Republican nominees in the primaries and raising money. What Steele needs to do is resign. Barring that, shut up and shake that tin cup.
For those of us who are capitalists but not conservatives it is sad that the only remaining defenders of our way of life are turd blossom--Rush Limbaugh--and Ron Paul. Ron Paul is a libertarian who is pretending to be a Republican. Ron Paul also allowed his name to be used to publish extremely racist views which he has never adequately explained.
