Russian Foreign Policy Expert Igor Panarin Revises US Collapse Prediction: New Rationale, New Date

Carol Bengle Gilbert
Igor Panarin, diplomatic professor in Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, created a stir in November when he predicted that the troubled economy would cause the United States of America to collapse by spring 2009. Now Russian foreign policy expert Igor Panarin has moved the predicted U.S. collapse date forward to 2010 and cited new reasons for the country's projected demise.

The Russian Panarin, who is known as an information warfare specialist, has long believed that the United States will fail. Panarin first went public with his pessimistic prognostications in 1998. Interestingly enough, back then his predicted collapse timetable called for the US breakup as early as autumn 2009. In November, with the U.S. and world economies nosediving, Panarin startled the world with a grim prediction, published in Izvestia, that the US breakup was imminent. Due to widespread dissatisfaction with the economic crisis, the US would splinter into 6 distinct nations, as early as spring 2009, Panarin predicted.

With spring about to bloom and Panarin's original prediction not close to fruition, Panarin issued a revised prediction Tuesday. The Russian foreign policy expert told students, professors, diplomats and invited press corps representatives at the Russian Diplomatic Academy that the breakup will occur before 2011. Panarin said President Obama will impose martial law on the citizens of the U.S. this year preceding the breakup.

According to Panarin, Russia and China will lead the world once the U.S. collapses.

Panarin's evidence is somewhat general, based in part on a conclusion that the U.S. is in a state of moral decline. Panarin referred to school shootings, prison statistics, and the number of gay men as evidence of the country's alleged moral decline. Panarin's other evidence of impending collapse is the U.S. financial situation, particularly its declining stature as a world economic force.

If this Russian foreign policy experts grim predictions have you thinking that maybe he ought to come take a look, he says he has.

"I was there recently and things are far from good," Panarin told Associated Press. "What's happened is the collapse of the American dream."

What Russian foreign policy expert Igor Panarin may have failed to grasp in making his grim predictions is the enduring quality of the American Dream. The American Dream is the foundation for Americans themselves rising up and meeting challenges with ingenuity and determination. As an American who was inundated with stories of the American Dream throughout childhood, never once do I remember being told that the government had a role in making the dream materialize, nor was the status of financial markets a component.

With record job losses, the American Dream may be tattered a bit, but the can-do spirit is far from its demise. The American Dream lives on in the American people, whether Russian foreign policy and information warfare specialist Igor Panarin can see it or not.

You won't find the American Dream in the newspapers, Mr. Panarin. It's in the hearts of the American people.

    LOL.

Yes, it will split into three and Alaska with all it's common ground with Russia will join! Lol, I almost laughed myself to tears with this one.

I am not American, and I am not Russian, but my god This man with his theories borderlines insane.

He only finds a market for his empty words with ignorant people who think that the last half of the 20th century still exist or could ever return.

Igor Panarin is a donkey... Not even that. He's a confused, stupid, and desperate little man.

The communists never did understand our people. Let them make all the predictions they want. The US will prevail as a greatest nation in the world.

Do you think the world will end in 1012?

While I don't think America will fail, it IS in big trouble and we may see regional revolutions, maybe in areas like here in southern California where too few people control too much of the financial clout. Eventually, people are going to wind up being fed up with their families starving to death while a baseball player is handed $45 million for playing a GAME 150 days out of the year for two years. If I worked another 100 years I wouldn't make 10% of that kind of money.

    This too shall pass.

The united States will Never fall it is lunacy to even say such a idiotic thing and further more if history hasn't proven that Russia full of idiotic people look at the instability of its currant government the fall of the soviet union and its slaughter of its own people let the communists think what they want But America will never fall and it is foolish to think it will. Now on his thoughts of America being divided into 6 separate states it will never happen this country has been united under one flag since the civil war and will remain that way. Also if Russia thinks that it and its communist ally China will become leaders of some foolish new world order than let them America will send them all back to were they came from this country is and will always remain the most advanced and strongest military force in the world and it will not change. and also i never said i agree with my own counties forage policies in my opinion America should remain isolated from other countries let t

I am amused at the reaction by US citizens over these disintegration predictions. I am not saying these will come true but what do Americans think about their institutions making predictions and policy guidelines for other countries? its nice to be at the receiving end of the stick somedays.

  • Sheryl Young 3/4/2009

I just hate that Russians are making predictions about an American collapse.
