Rutgers Player Eric LeGrand Paralyzed After Spinal Cord Injury

Ron Noble
The defensive tackle for Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Eric LeGrand, has had a spinal cord injury in a game against Army on Saturday. According to reports, Eric LeGrand has been shown to have no movement from his neck down after the injury. The injury itself occurred when Eric LeGrand made a tackle after a kickoff in the fourth quarter after he collided with Malcolm Brown at the 25-yard line. The injury left LeGrand unable to move as he lay on the field for a few minutes as he was prepared to be taken to Hackensack University Medical Center.

The specifics of the injury are that the C3-C4 vertebrae were damaged in the tackle and the hospital performed and emergency surgery to try and repair that part of his spine. Eric LeGrand is still in Hackensack University Medical Center in intensive care and it's unknown when he will get out but he expected to be there, in intensive care and other parts of the hospital, for a good while. Yet the Rutgers team and their fans as a whole are holding up faith and hope that Eric LeGrand will get through this injury and return to playing. Right now it'll only be a waiting game for Rutgers and their fans if such a recovery by Eric LeGrand becomes a reality. They all will just have to wait and see.
