Rutgers University Starts "Believe Fund" to Help Eric LeGrand, Paralyzed Football Player

The Eric LeGrand Believe Fund has been established by Rutgers University to raise funds to help the family of Eric LeGrand, notes NJ.com. LeGrand suffered a spinal injury during a football game with the Rutgers' team. The injury caused paralysis below the neck.

Eric LeGrand is currently at the Hackensack University Medical Center hospital having treatment for the injury. The football community and all of America are hoping Eric makes a full recovery.

All donations made to the fund for Eric LeGrand will go to his family to help pay for treatment and equipment expenses.

T-Shirt Sales to Donate to Eric LeGrand Fund

Two styles of t-shirts are being sold to raise funds for the family of Eric LeGrande at the Scarlet Fever Store at 109 Somerset Street in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Both shirts have LeGrande's number 52 on them.

The first shirt is white and has the word "Believe" on the front. It costs $10. The second shirt is red and has Rutgers on the front and "Keep Chopping' on the back. It costs $15.

The owner of Scarlet Nation told NJ.com "I'm only covering my costs. The rest, including Rutgers licensing fees, is being donated to Eric's family."

Hope for Recovery

A student who was previously paralyzed at Penn State was able to walk again within a year. Hope is strong that Eric will also have that kind of recovery. Adam Taliaferro had a spinal injury a decade ago while playing football at Penn State. The doctors said he had a three percent chance of being able to walk again, notes NJ.com.

Taliaferro proved the doctors wrong. He was walking again just eight months later. He is an example of how medicine cannot always predict the outcome after an injury.

ESPN reports that Tim Pernetti, Rutgers Athletic Director, has visited Eric at the hospital. Eric is said to be in "good spirits."
