RV Living: A Look at Those Who Call Campgrounds Home

Carmella Mae Dunkin
If you have never gone RV'ing, then you most likely have never given much thought to those who live in an RV full time. Many of the RV'ers you see in RV parks and campgrounds, actually live there year round, others are there for a season. If you own an RV, then RV parks are actually a rather nice options for those who are retired, or even families who cannot afford the high cost of renting.

RV's can also be a nice option for those with severe allergies. It seems that mold is everywhere these days, and for those who are allergic to it, it can be almost impossible to find a home that is mold free. RV's on the other hand, especially well made 5th wheels, are much less prone to mold, and are much easier to repair if a leak arises and needs repair.

Let me share with you what living in an RV park is like. Depending on which RV park you choose to stay in, you can have a spot that is kissing your neighbors spot, or you can have a spot with space. We have found the mountains West of Colorado Springs to be full of RV parks with nice spacious spots, and very cheap rates. RV sites range from $290.00 per month, up to $575.00 per month. Many KOA's offer monthly rates at around $575.00 per month, plus electric.

However, we have found much nicer RV parks in the mountains West of Colorado Springs that are as cheap as $290.00 per month plus electric. Woodland Park has RV parks that are a little more costly, but you have all the shopping conveniences up there so it is worth the extra.

In some cases it is actually cheaper! At the Coachlite RV park you can rent a spot all to yourself at the top of a hill for $500.00 per month plus electric, and the view is out of this world! You get an awesome view of Pikes Peak from many RV parks in the Woodland Park area.

As far as comparing an RV to an actual home, there really is little difference at all. An RV is really no different than a small park trailer. They are constructed in much the same way, only an RV in my opinion, is constructed much better, it has to be because of being driven around all the time.

Although an RV may seem too small too live in, you would be surprised at how much room you have in a 36 foot rig with two slide outs on it. A family of five can live quite comfortably in that space, especially if they are a close knit family to begin with, it is quite easy.

Another bonus to RV living, is you never have to mow a lawn, or weed,or anything like that, unless you are a workcamper. RV living is an easy way of life, and can be a lot of fun, especially when the bears and cougars are out and about!

So when you look at all the pluses to living in an RV, it is really not so bad at all. In fact you may just begin to enjoy it.
