An update has been produced in regards to the recent incident in which Ryan O'Neal was arrested for fighting with his son Griffen O'Neal, resulting in the firing of a gun and an injury to Griffen O'Neal's girlfriend. Ryan O'Neal's publicist has gone on the offensive and released a statement adding more light to what actually happened on the night in question. According to the publicist, it was the younger O'Neal who escalated the argument and caused his own girlfriend to get hurt.

In the statement that was released early today, the publicist informs the public that Ryan O'Neal and Griffen O'Neal began arguing. What the argument was about has yet to be identified. What happened during the argument supposedly is that Griffen O'Neal became upset and grabbed the fireplace poker. He used the fireplace poker as a weapon and began to swing it around widely.

During the swinging of the fireplace poker, Ryan O'Neal had to duck several times to avoid being hit in the head. As Ryan ducked, Griffen O'Neal ended up accidentally hitting his girlfriend in the head. This ends the speculation to what actually happened to Griffen's girlfriend during the incident. Initial reports stated that she was injured, but the reports never mentioned what they were from.

Fearing for his life and the life of Griffen's pregnant girlfriend, the elder O'Neal fled to his bedroom and grabbed his gun. As his son came closer and continued to swing the fireplace poker and act in a threatening manner, Ryan O'Neal fired a warning shot. The shot supposedly scared Griffen enough that he got into his car and fled the scene of the incident in question. For those who do not know, the entire situation escalated in the older O'Neal's home.

According to this statement, Ryan O'Neal was not the one on the offensive and escalating the argument. He was actually on the defensive and took measure to protect himself. O'Neal was also worried enough for his son's girlfriend that he felt action had to be taken. More details of this incident are coming out daily through print and television outlets.
