Sabattus, Maine Dining and Shopping Guide

Sabattus is a town in Maine, not far from the cities of Lewiston and Auburn, with a population of almost 4,500. According to the town's website, it was incorporated in 1788 with the name "Webster", and was later renamed. It offers a fairly good variety of dining and shopping, as well as various other establishments.

DINING: Restaurants in Sabattus include the House of Pizza (also offers Italian sandwiches), Yeung's (Chinese), Uncle Moe's Diner, The Settlement restaurant & convenience store, and a Dunkin' Donuts franchise. There is also a bar and nightclub called "Mixers"; a profile page on MySpace.com contains details and comments on it. Dine.com has a couple brief reviews of Uncle Moe's on their website. According to their web site, The Settlement sells take out food, pizza, beverages, seafood, chicken, sandwiches, cheese burgers, ice cream, candy and other items. Take out food is also available at the Main St. Market.

SHOPPING: Sabattus has a number of stores; there is the Main Street Market (sandwiches, soda, ice, beer, take-out: pizza, chicken fingers, fries, onion rings), Danny's Variety (has gas pumps), a Cumberland Farms convenience store with a Gulf gas station, Pipsqueaks (childrens' items), a hardware store, and a video rental store. The Settlement restaurant and convenience store (described in more detail above) also sells diesel and regular gas. More shopping is possible in neighboring Lisbon, which has a grocery store and pharmacy, among other stores.

LODGING: Maine Woods Cottage Rental (mainewoodsonline.com/cottage/) offers a cottage for rent on a weekly or monthly basis, and it is available nightly during some months. A waterfront camp can be rented as well (in addition to the cottage) at additional cost. Much more lodging is available in the nearby cities of Lewiston and Auburn. A campground called The Birches (thebirches.com) in Litchfield is also not very distant from Sabattus.

OTHER: Other establishments in Sabattus, Maine include Sabattus Disc Golf, a hot tub rental service, a Knights of Columbus council, an American Legion post, a car wash, a body shop, a well drilling service, Sabattus machine works, an overhead door dealer, a credit union (has a twenty-four hour drive-up ATM), a post office, a municipal building, police & fire departments, two schools, and a public boat access on Sabattus Pond.

MEDIA: Maine newspapers available in this area include the Sun Journal (Lewiston), Press Herald (Portland), and Kennebec Journal (Augusta). Radio stations which can be received in Sabattus include FM-104.3 (60s/70s music, has occasional weather and traffic reports) and AM-1240 (news).
