Sabra Hummus: A Review

Recalcitrantem
Sabra Hummus was the first brand of hummus I ever tried. It comes in a plastic clear bowl with a red top, and can usually be found in the deli or produce area of a grocery store. It comes in a huge variety of flavors, including garlic, spinach and artichoke, roasted red pepper, spicy pepper, and my personal favorite, roasted pine nut. Those are just a few of the fifteen flavors available.

Sabra Hummus is a great snack because it's made from chickpeas, which are good for you! It's got lots of fiber and a little bit of iron, and is perfect on crackers, bread, pita, and even on sandwiches instead of mayonnaise. The price varies from $2.99 for a small container when it's on sale to $5 for the 1oz Family Size container, or higher for specialty stores (usually). All of Sabra Dipping Company's products are certified Kosher, as well! If you need a snack on the go, Sabra has tiny travel-sized packaged of their hummus in some stores, as well.

Sabra began in 1986 in Queens, NY, and most recently has ties to PepsiCo. They are a company that's trying to move toward being green, with a plant in Virginia using 35% renewable energy. The packaging is about 1/3 recycled material, too. They have locations in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, and California.

Sabra's website is very helpful and easy to navigate. You can look for stores that carry their products, discover all the different products they make (salsa and babaganoush included), and find over 100 recipes, too. They have photos from past events, a little reality show, and videos from Sabra fans. You can even share the page on Facebook or Twitter. A chef blog is also included, and can be fun to read. The most recent update is from Chef Colombe about SuperBowl entertaining.

Sabra Hummus is a dip made from Chickpeas, also known as Garbanzo beans, sesame tahini, which is kind of like peanut butter but with sesame instead, garlic, salt, usually red bell pepper, and soybean and canola oil. There are other ingredients as well, so check you flavor's packaging. Sabra Hummus is a very smooth and flavorful Hummus, so if it's your first time trying it, I'd say to try this brand - I've been told by people native to the Middle East (where Hummus was first made) who have said that Sabra Hummus is the best you can buy.
