Sacramento Jazz Jubilee Venues
There are so many bands that participate in the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee that they have to be spread out to a variety of different venues. In 2009, there were 23 different spots ranging from intimate rooms to huge lots. Nineteen of the venues were in historic Old Sacramento, while the remaining four were near the Sacramento Convention Center, which is not far from Old Sacramento. Many of the venues stay the same from year to year, while others change. Several of the venues have dance floors, and most people are not shy about getting up to cut a rug. All of the Old Sacramento venues are within walking distance of each other.
Some of the Old Sacramento performance sites include the Delta King riverboat, a parking lot under Interstate 5 called "Highway Gardens", several tents that line the Sacramento River, the California State Railroad Museum and the Firehouse Restaurant's banquet room. The Sacramento Convention Center venues in 2009 were at the Hyatt Regency and Sheraton Grand, two very chic and comfort luxury hotels.
Sacramento Jazz Jubilee Music
Don't let the name fool you. Although jazz (traditional, Latin and gypsy) is the focus of this event, there are other types of music played as well. Some of them include blues, western swing, mainstream, zydeco, swing and Skiffle.
There are also novelty bands, like the Ophir Prison Marching Kazoo Band and Temperance Society and Igor's Jazz Cowboys. Other bands include, but are not limited to, Sister Swing, Tom Rigney and Flambeau, Capital Pops, Blue Street Jazz Band, Mumbo Gumbo and Le Jazz Hot.
Visitor Information for the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee
There are many hotels in Sacramento that are within a reasonable distance to the event, but it is a good idea to make reservations well in advance to make sure you get a room. Concerts run from about 10:00 in the morning until 11:00 or 12:00 at night.
Tickets are required for all of the events. They can be purchased by the day, or weekend passes are available. There is a discount for purchasing all-event passes before January first of the year of the event. If you are looking to cut costs, Monday is the cheapest day to go.
The Sacramento Jazz Jubilee is a fun family event, and a great way to spend Memorial Day Weekend!
