Sacramento Kings 2009-2010 Game-By-Game Predictions

Will the Kings Be Able to Capitalize on Their Size Advantage in the Backcourt?

Mark Hawkins
The 2009-2010 Sacramento Kings are a team in flux. New head coach Paul Westphal is their fourth coach since the close of the 2005-2006 season. Ownership is trying to negotiate a deal for a new arena and may look to relocate if a deal cannot be reached. Their first-round draft choice, Tyreke Evans (selected fourth overall in the 2009 NBA Draft), is really a combo-guard they will try to convert into a point guard.

As a point guard Evans and his 6-foot-6, 220 pound frame will cause matchup problems for opposing point guards. Tyreke Evans will be teamed with veteran shooting guard Kevin Martin (6'7") in the backcourt. With their height and length Evans and Martin will have a size advantage over most of their backcourt opponents. How well the Kings exploit that advantage will have an impact on how many wins the Sacramento Kings will be able to manufacture this season.

Dede the Kings do in fact have a much better record than I anticipated. I think it would be fair to say that, thus far, they Kings have performed better than anyone expected them to. Tyreke Evans has been phenomenal and is definitely a leading, if not the leading, candidate for Rookie of the Year. The Kings have already strung together two four-game winning streaks. Sacramento has won 13 of their first 27 games when I predicted they would only win 5 of them, but, despite the disparity between their actual record and my predicted record, I have still correctly predicted the outcome of 17 of Sacramento's first 27 games. So while the Kings are currently 13-14; I am currently 17-10.
