European Bakery
8303 Sierra College Boulevard
Roseville, California

My husband once surprised me with a chocolate truffle cake with raspberry filling and ganache for my birthday, and it came from European Bakery. It was one of the richest, most delicious cakes I've ever had! It's not cheap, but it's worth it. It's so rich that you only need a small piece, so you can get away with a smaller cake. If that doesn't float your boat, they have lots of other tempting options.

Freeport Bakery - www.freeportbakery.com
2966 Freeport Boulevard
Sacramento, California
(916) 442-4256

Speaking of my husband, we used Freeport Bakery to get our wedding cake. They spent about 45 minutes with us, letting us taste cakes and making suggestions, and they have books and books of designs to choose from. It was the best wedding cake I've ever experienced, and the service was excellent. They also have an excellent selection of non-wedding cakes and pastries-try the Irish cream cake!

The Real Pie Company - www.realpiecompany.com
1201 F Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
916-446-2885 phone

Need a pie for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, or just because? This is the place to get it. They offer every kind of pie from fruit to mincemeat to quiche. They even offer cobblers and crisps, an all-time favorite of mine. They have some unique pie choices, such as jumbleberry and butterscotch and banana cream. There are so many options, you could have a different pie at every holiday or special event for a year and not repeat! As an added bonus, they support local farmers.

Ettore's Bakery - www.ettores.com
2376 Fair Oaks Boulevard
Sacramento, California
(916) 482-0708

Like several of the other places I've mentioned, Ettore's has a great selection of a variety of desserts. I wanted to make sure to mention them though, because they have a to-die-for fruit basket cake. If you're not familiar with this, it's a white cake with fruit in the middle and on top. It is absolutely scrumptious, especially as a summertime treat. Get it as a birthday cake, and they'll inscribe your birthday wishes on a slab of white chocolate on top.

Tarts and Truffles - www.tartsandtruffles.com
6000 J Street
Sacramento, California
(916) 488-0100

In addition to yummy custom cakes, Tarts and Truffles has an ever-expanding selection of petit fours and truffles to choose from. Their petit fours have six layers, and each is a tiny little artistic creation. Their hand-dipped truffles (one of my personal favorites) are available in different flavors and are made with high-quality ingredients. Try taking their variety plate of miniature pastries to your next holiday function, and it's sure to be a hit.

Nothing But Cupcakes - www.nothingbutcupcakes.com
1060 Pleasant Grove Boulevard
Roseville, California
(916) 910-3553

Nothing But Cupcakes sells the best cupcakes ever, and in a wider variety than you could ever imagine. Everything from your garden-variety chocolate to guava chiffon, you're sure to find an interesting flavor to wow your guests. Cupcakes are more popular than ever, and are even being used as wedding cakes.

Sweet Seasons Bakery - www.sweetseasons.biz
7601 Sunrise Boulevard, Suite 5
Citrus Heights, California
(916) 728-2900

Sweet Seasons offers custom cakes for weddings, baby showers, or any other celebration. Take a look at their website to get some ideas on design (such as a farm, a circus, or a spectacular wedding cake), or come up with your own! They regularly use a wide variety of cake and filling flavors, but will try to accommodate you if you want something else. Your special event will definitely be remembered if you use one of these cakes.

Whole Foods Market - www.wholefoodsmarket.com
4315 Arden Way
Sacramento, California
(916) 488-2800

Last but not least, this is no ordinary grocery store bakery. Not only does Whole Foods Market have an incredible selection of store-baked treats, but they are made with all natural ingredients-no artificial sweeteners or flavors, some products are gluten-free, and they use cage-free eggs. Now you can serve delicious desserts at your celebrations while being socially conscious!
