Safe Alternatives to Tanning Beds

Now that the winter months are upon us many of are wondering how we will keep up with our beautiful golden kissed hues. Tanning beds no doubt are harmful due to the UV rays they emit, not only can they cause various types of skin cancers they can premature the skin. These UV rays are the same types of UV rays that are emitted by the sun, this is why it is recommended why we wear an SPF while out under the sunlight, but many people fail to wear an SPF while under the harmful lights of a tanning bed. In fact many people use what are called tanning bed light accelerators.

Tanning Sprays and Lotions: I know right now your jaw may be dropping and you're thinking the dreaded orange, but let me tell you these products have come a long way but you will still get what you pay for. So in saying that if you pick up a product at the dollar store expect to get a dollar store tan and you still have to be careful in applying the product because you do not want a streaky looking tan. If you take your time, follow the directions have a friend or someone help you on the hard to reach areas you should have no trouble achieving a nice looking tan with the spray or lotions.

Tanning Pills: Many people think a pill for tanning has to be dangerous but to be honest they truly can be with abuse, what they are, are carotenoid pills. Carotenoid is basically a pigment; this pigment when taken internally will be absorbed by the tissues in your body and after awhile will cause your skin to appear to look tanned. Although because of abuse to achieve darker tans you can risk damaging your vision and causing uneven pigmentation. We do not list these as the top safe alternatives because of their ability to be abused by the user who wants to keep achieving a darker tan and doesn't know when to stop.

Air Brushing: This is probably one of my favorite safest processes of tanning its fairly quick, looks amazing, and not to mention its very natural looking. The only downside is that you have to have someone apply it for you unless you plan to buy the equipment for it and still you would need a friend to help you. Just like someone would use an "air brush" to paint something they actually paint your tan on you, but the tan does not feel to be painted on you at all your body feels silky smooth and natural and there is no cracking that comes along with paint.
