Safe Driving Tips to Avoid Speeding Tickets

Watch the Red Lights

Pay attention to the red lights of other cars in front of you to avoid speeding tickets. Look at the cars about a half-mile to a mile ahead of you. If you suddenly notice a group of cars hit their brakes at the same time, setting off their red lights, that tells you that there's something ahead triggering this action, such as a trooper at the side of the road, slow moving vehicle, or vehicle stopped due to car trouble.

Scan Ahead

When you're driving on the highway, keep your peripheral vision trained on the side of the road about a mile ahead of yourself to avoid speeding tickets. Look for anything out of the ordinary and brake or get into a slower lane behind other vehicles if you do see something strange, like something shiny that could indicate that there's an officer monitoring traffic or someone preparing to drive out into the road.

Don't Ride the Left Lane

If you don't have be in the far left lane, don't be. This lane is officially called the passing lane because that's what it's meant for. It's for people who just want to get by a slower driver, then return to the middle lane. It's not a good idea to make it a habit of driving in the fast lane (especially if you're the first in line) because 1) it's easier to note the speed of a person riding in that lane with a radar gun and 2) driving in that lane gives you the appearance of driving too fast, even if you're going slower than other cars in other lanes.

Use Cruise Control to Avoid Speeding Tickets

One of the best ways to assure that you drive safely and avoid speeding tickets is to put your car on cruise control. If your car has a cruise control feature, I can't think of one solid reason why you shouldn't utilize it when you're driving on the highway. It's easy to daze off mentally when you're driving and speed up unconsciously-cruise control allows you to maintain your speed and avoid going over your comfort zone. It also helps other drivers around you adjust to your presence and either fall in line with your speed or pass you by safely.
