When your kids get a sunburn, it can be one of the most frustrating parts of summer. Kids, who treasure summer most of all, become pretty difficult to deal with when they have a bad sunburn! The worst part about sunburns is that they can appear even if you take the necessary precautions regarding skincare in direct sunlight. Applying a sunscreen with a high enough SPF is sometimes not enough to keep your children safe from harmful UV rays! Though many brands are waterproof formulas, they are not impervious to water, and can slide off. Sunblock can even melt when exposed to a period of hot, direct sunlight that is longer than the recommended time on the container. When it melts or soaks into the skin, it becomes useless and needs to be reapplied, and that can sometimes be a difficulty on those long summer days full of excited kids on their vacation.

Luckily, there are a number of things you can do to protect your kid's skin even after the effects of a sunburn. Many products on the market today offer ways to heal and soothe a sunburn, and are especially safe and made just for children. However, sometimes the best approach to healing and soothing a difficult and painful sunburn is to use natural remedies, like pure aloe vera, chamomile, and vinegar.

Using Pure Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is the most widely known natural ingredient used to heal and soothe all sorts of skin issues, one of which being mild to severe sunburn. You can usually find pure aloe vera lotion or extract pretty easily in most stores that sell skincare products. If you can't find something that's 100% aloe, you can always choose something that's as close as you can get for pretty much the same effect!

It's very easy to use, but on children, always be sure to apply gently and in tiny circular patterns with cold hands so as to avoid even further irritation to the sunburned area. Use a moderate amount at first, depending of course on how big the affected area is on the child!

Using Chamomile

Chamomile is absolutely wonderful for your skin, no matter what your age. It's great for kids because it's all natural and very gentle, and when used correctly it can treat the affected area for hours and hours, making it a great remedy to try to use overnight. You can use chamomile from different sources, but to ensure it's directly from the plant itself and unaltered as much as possible, the easiest and safest source that's common and cost effective is using a chamomile teabag.

Wet the teabag in a small dish of cool water, and gently dab on your child's sunburned area, continuing until the teabag lets out a light tinted secretion when you squeeze it instead of a darker tea. This is a fantastic way to heal and soothe a sunburn overnight, because the scent of the chamomile can also aid in getting your child to sleep, even with his or her painful sunburn!

Using Vinegars

Vinegar is very useful to cure sunburns, and doesn't sting as much as you'd think on a child's skin! To minimize the stinging that will occur though, it's best to use a light apple cider vinegar or white vinegar, rather than the more acidic wine vinegars or balsamic. Putting a mixture of cool water and a light, gentle vinegar in a small spray bottle is a great way to make the application of your treatment ten times easier!

Kids don't seem to mind when you spray something rather than apply it with your hands or a cloth, because you aren't actually touching the painful sunburned area. Spraying the sunburned skin on your child a few times a day should greatly improve his or her skin condition in the area, and help heal and soothe their sunburn in half the time.

Relax and watch it heal!

Now you and your child can face the rest of the summer with a smile knowing that you have lots of tricks up your sleeve for dealing with nasty sunburns! Enjoy!
