Safe Harbor - Christine Feehan

Safe Harbor is the second full length novel about the Drake Sisters that I've had the delight to read so far. In this novel the focus is Hannah Drake, like the other sisters she's gifted. Each of the seven Drake sisters has their own magical ability. In Hannah's case she controls the elements. Wind, earth, fire and water. She's been able to use these since childhood, but it's been her body and face that she has used to earn a living beyond the walls of her family home.

Hannah Drake is a top model and they way she displays herself and allows other men to look at her has driven Jonas insane. He grew up almost as a part of the family. He's always loved Hannah, but has rubbed her the wrong way for as long as she can remember. That hasn't stopped her from being in love with him, nor he with her. In a desperate measure to try and shut Hannah out of his life, to take time away from her and find a way to cope with everything he feels about her, Jonas takes on a dangerous job for the government and ends up coming home to recover from injuries.

But trouble follows him home and launches an attack on Hannah that puts her out of the modeling business for good. Only then do the sisters and Jonas finally see past the mask and learn about the real Hannah. The one who hates being in the public eye. A woman whose self confidence has taken a battering and it wasn't that strong to begin with. The attack leaves her physically scarred and on the edge of death. But will Jonas and her sisters be strong enough to not only pull her through this but find and end the danger to Hannah's life?

Safe Harbor is an emotional roller coaster of a novel. It peels back some of the dirty layers of the modeling world in the way Hannah is treated by her manager. Her beauty isn't enough. Her size 2 figure is too top heavy for some of the designers who complain and even suggest she has a reduction. And her life as a model ends when she's slashed across her body and face.

Ms. Feehan does an amazing job of showing us the real Hannah. The family pull together. The strength Jonas shows. The way he then pushes past his own problems to try and protect the woman he loves and has always loved. Ms. Feehan is a must read for me now, and I pick up her books whenever possible. When I can't afford the new books I'm now happily searching through the library to fill in the missing books. She is a true must reed for paranormal romance fans.
