The Paleo diet was developed in the mid 1970's as nutritionists began to realize how the caveman who lived in the Paleolithic Era was healthier, capable of greater physical activity and best of all free from chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

The Paleolithic Era was from 10,000 years ago to 2 million years ago. During this time early man, we call caveman was primarily a hunter and gatherer. The caveman had not developed any farming skills and was dependent on the surrounding landscape for food.

The caveman obtained protein from meat and fish as they were excellent hunters and carbohydrates and nutrients came from fruits and berries that grew wild. Dairy products, grains and processed foods were not available at the time. Meals were simple and basic but contained enough nutrition for the caveman's active lifestyle.

Paleo Diet recipes work because they contains so many different types of meats, fruits and berries. Food selection would change with the seasons and the caveman never became dependant on single item always eating a diverse blend of foods maximizing the potential of consuming a wide range of nutrients..

Following Paleo diet recipes is as simple as preparing your own meals. Sodium salt is rarely used, meat and fish is fully cooked but many fruits and vegetables are ate raw so they do not lose nutrients. Desserts are normally derived from fruits or berries.
