Safe, Stylish, Cheap: What More Do You Want in a Car!

You want style and comfort in a mini van, but of course safety is tops on your list. But just how can you tell if the car is safe enough for you and your family? Well, of course there's the feel you have when driving it. So many mini vans, SUVs, and Crossovers feel somewhat unstable when you drive them, especially if you're not used to a larger vehicle.

Thanks to a 3.8-liter, double overhead cam V-6 engine, the Kia Sedona is one mini van that drives like a sedan. From the steady acceleration (watch that speedometer!) to the firm braking, the car feels solid. It's also priced for the budget conscious with MSRP starting at $21,420.

That's no false impression. The Sedona not only earned a five-star crash rating from the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Safety Administration, but was the only one of 34 vehicles to earn the "Top Safety Pick" award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. That rating is based on the car's performance during front, side and rear impact crash tests.

Plenty of comfort

Still, it's sometimes tough to picture yourself behind the wheel of a van all day without the words "Oh, my aching back" running through your mind.

The driver's seat of the Sedona has a nice amount of lumbar support so even if you haul kids, groceries and laundry all day, the car's seat will give you some relief. And forget the days when some vans' passenger seats gave as much support as an overused foam pillow. The Sedona has "captain's chairs" in the second row of seats that gives nice back support.

You know how annoying it is to sit in the back seat and boil until the air conditioner finally sends cool air back? This car has front and rear manual air conditions and heaters. There are even coat hooks in the second and third rows so the kids won't be fighting over who sits with the winter coats.

Other nice perks

The designers of this car must know what it's like to drive with a family. Not only does it seat seven people, but the wide rear doors allow access to kids of all ages. And once the kids are in the back, the driver can use a special built-in mirror to keep an eye on those in back.

Don't even worry about storage. The back well is wide and deep and the third row of seats folds down for extra capacity.

And going back to safety, yes, there's keyless entry plus a panic button. You'll likely never need it, just as you won't need all the car's other safety features but isn't it nice to know it's there?
