Safe New Year's Eve 2009 Events for Families

Dee Davis
There are lots of wonderful family friendly events that one could part-take in for the holidays. It is very easy to stay at home, eat, drink and ring in the New Year to Dick Clark's rocking eve. However, it's also good to get out occasionally during the holidays and just have fun! You may have to buddle up the little ones a little more that usual, however it's a refreshing change. Over the last decade I have done one or two things: ice skate or watch the New Year's Eve countdown on television; living vicariously through others...

Nothing beats the outdoors especially during the winter season. This New Year's, like most, there will be public ice skating held at the Pepsi Coliseum in downtown Indianapolis. This family event begins at 2:30pm EST and goes until midnight. Each event is two hours long (i.e. 2:30pm to 4:30pm). Admission is $4.00 for ages 13 and up and $3.00 for children 12 and under, best of all there is free admission for those who are not skating. For further information call 317-927-7622 or visit the website at www.in.gov/statefair/fairgrounds/skating/public.html. Pepsi Coliseum, 1202 East 38th Street, Indianapolis, Marion County.

If you would like to ring in the New Year partying with family and friends, then the Atrium is a great place to be. The party begins at 7pm and goes until 2AM. There will be a cash bar, live music by the Stardusters Orchestra, champagne toast and ball drop at 12AM. Which keeps in the tradition of the holiday. Additionally, there will be a four course meal with wine service. Admission is $340 couples, $170 singles. For further information call 1- 888-936-9360.

There will also be a party in the Windsor Ballroom at French Lick Springs Resort, from10 PM to 2 AM. Furthermore, there will be a dessert buffet, and live music by the Souled Out Band, as well as a champagne toast, ball drop at 12 AM, and party favors. The admission charge is $139 couple and $70 for singles. For ticket purchase or additional information, please call 1-888-936-9360 or visit the website at www.frenchlick.com . The French Lick Springs Resort is located at, 8670 West State Road 56, French Lick, Orange County.

It's not such a bad idea to ring in the New Year laughing; it might be reflective of the upcoming year. Therefore, paying Morty's Comedy Joint a visit is not such a bad idea, in fact, it's a great idea! It's not only a great place to be, on account of its comedians and great jokes, but also because of the ambience, food, and great company. The admission fee is $25 if purchased in advance and $30 if purchased the day of. All shows are non-smoking shows. For additional information call 317-848-5500 or visit the website at http://mortyscomedy.com/TBeventDetail.php?eventID=25100. Morty's Comedy Joint is located at 3625 East 96th Street, Indianapolis, Marion County.

More so, if you enjoy theatrical shows, 'This Wonderful Life,' is a wonderful family event. 'This Wonderful Life' is now playing at the Indiana Repertory Theatre. It's a Frank Capra's film, which has indeed become a delightful one-man theatrical presentation. It will play through to Jan. 4, 2009, however show time may vary. For additional information call 317-635-5252 or visit the website at www.irtlive.com or https://lyricstage.com/main_stage/this_wonderful_life. The Indiana Repertory Theatre is located at 140 West Washington Street, Indianapolis, Marion County.

Additionally, the 2nd Annual Budweiser New Year's Eve Masquerade Ball will be held at Union Station. This event features Zanna Doo and the Jonathan Clay Band. Moreover, there will also be a costume contest, walk-about performers, door prizes and much more. There is an admission fee of $50 before December 1, 2008 and $60 after. For additional information call 317-782-0724 or visit the website at www.indynewyears.com. This event will be held in the Grand Hall at Union Station, 39 Jackson Place, Indianapolis, Marion County.

No matter what you choose to do this year, there is no doubt that you will have a lot of fun. This New Year's Eve is without a doubt another exciting year; therefore it's good to welcome it with much joy and elation. Have fun!
