Safelite AutoGlass Review

A Review of Safelite AutoGlass Performance in Repairing My Windshield

Chris Gafner
Recently, I had this misfortune of having a rock chip my windshield in the family minivan. The chip was small enough that I didn't think much of it. I put the repair on my mental to do list.

Every time I saw the chip I kept thinking that I needed to get that windshield fixed soon. About two weeks later I was mortified when the chip became a crack about 12 inches long. Suddenly the windshield became a much bigger priority.

I decided to call Safelite AutoGlass to get a quote on windshield repair. The customer service representative from Safelite was very helpful. First he helped me determine if the windshield could be repaired or if it needed to be replaced. Since the crack was larger than the size of a dollar bill it was determined that it would need to be replaced.

Next, Safelite assisted me with the insurance details. I gave Safelite the insurance information and they quickly contacted the insurance company to find out my coverage for windshield damage. It turned out that the insurance company would have paid in full to repair a windshield chip. Unfortunately, I waited until the windshield had a large crack I now I had a $500 deductible! Ouch!

Next, the Safelite rep contacted a local Safelite repairman that would come to my home to do the windshield replacement. I really liked the fact that Safelite would come to me to do the repair.

Safelite quoted me a price of $240.87 including tax for the windshield replacement. The price was much lower than I thought it would be. Because the quote was lower than my insurance deductible I didn't have to go through my insurance company to get the repair done.

Two days later the Safelite repairman was at my house. I was originally given a time window of between noon and 5 p.m. for the repair, but the Safelite repairman called me that morning and narrowed down the timeframe to between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

The Safelite repairman was courteous and professional. The repair only took about 40 minutes. I had to wait an additional hour for the glue to dry on the windshield before I could drive my minivan again.

The windshield replacement work was top notch. I was very satisfied with my experience with Safelite. Next time I get a chip in my windshield I won't make the mistake of waiting. I will be on the phone to Safelite that very same day.
