Safety Antrel Rolle Says NY Jets Not Better Than Giants

New York Giants safety Antrel Rolle has been one of the team's most outspoken players in the past year. Sometimes, it's better to just leave things unsaid.

During a Monday interview on WQAM out of Miami, Rolle spoke about Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, telling Sid Rosenberg "If he just loosened up just a little bit, run the ship the way you want to run it, run the program the way you want to run it but let us have a little fun, because at the end of the day that's what it's all about." Rolle went on to say "I understand what he's trying to do but he has to understand it's 2011, man, things have changed."

Rolle then talked about the New York Jets, a team just one win away from the Super Bowl. "Do I think they're the best team out there? I don't think they're the best team out there. You can name a lot of teams better than them. If you match us up against the Jets, do I think they're a better team? No, I don't think so at all. But when it comes to their chemistry, I think their chemistry might be better than ours. I think they have a lot more fun than we have."

Upon further investigation, I have discovered that the New York Jets finished the 2010 NFL regular season with one more win than the Giants. Unlike the Giants, the Jets also advanced to the 2011 NFL Playoffs and they are now one win away from playing in Super Bowl XLV. Therefore, Rolle is incorrect in thinking the current Jets are not better than the current Giants. Perhaps Rolle and his teammates would have had more fun if they would have prevented the Eagles from scoring 21 points in the final seven and a half minutes of that fateful December showdown, or if they would have showed up the next week in Green Bay.

Tom Coughlin not being "loose" is not why the Meltdown at the Meadowlands occurred. It was a total team failure, one that certainly wasn't fun for Giants fans. A pass defense not lit up by Michael Vick and Aaron Rodgers in four and a half quarters of play during the 2011 NFL season sure would be fun, though.
