Safety Tips for Kids on Halloween

Mich Butler
Halloween can be a fun holiday if you do some things to your child safe. Children love to celebrate Halloween with a costume of there choice. These costumes can be made or store bought but one thing they all should be is safe. keep By adding a florescent accessory to the child's costume you can do a lot to make the child more visible at night. Many communities have trick or treating during the afternoon with the sun is still out but if your community still has trick or treat in the night you can do some things to make your child seen in the dark.

Since Halloween is usually celebrated at night it can be very dark out and a costume with some glow to it can be safer then one that has no glowing to it. Glow in the dark tape can be added to any costume so people can see the child in the dark. Some costumes can have an added light so they can be seen easier at night. A flashlight can light the child's way and also help others to be able to see the child in the dark.

If your child wants to be Darth Vader then a light up light sword will add some protection in the night. A knight in shining armor could carry a lighted plastic sword with them as they go trick or treating in the dark to make them more visible. A fairy Godmother can carry a light up wand with them when they go trick or treating in the dark and if your child is a witch they can have a band of florescent tape around there hat so they can glow in the dark.

A glow in the dark trick or treat bag can help the child be seen at night. If you don't have a glow in the dark trick or treat bag you can put a flashlight in the bag that is turned on, then the trick or treat bag can be seen better at night. It is important that a child is seen in the dark so they can be seen better by people in cars.

Trick or treating has been know to be dangerous. Many things can happen to a child in the dark. Never let a child go trick or treating alone. It is a good idea for you to accompany the child and stay close to them to keep the child safe. A group of people is safer then just one person. Some communities offer a Halloween party for the area children. These can be fun and safe.

After your child has gone trick or treating it is very important for all their candy to be examined to be sure it is safe for them to eat. Dump the candy out and look at each piece. Look for any candy that looks like it has been tampered with and if it looks tampered throw it out. It is better to be safe then sorry. Some kids like to eat all their candy right away but it is a good idea for you to ration the child's candy so they do not eat too much at one time.
