Safeway Santa Fe Style Vegetables Makes a Great Holiday Side Dish

Lisa Riggs
Frozen vegetables are a quick and nutritious side dish that never fails to please. They can be served as is, or dressed up with a variety of sauces and dressings to make them a little more exciting. One such frozen side that I love is Safeway Santa Fe Style Vegetables. This easy to cook, inexpensive side dish is great for a weeknight meal or a holiday dinner.

I pay only $ 2.49 for a one pound bag of these frozen vegetables. This is a side dish that offers plenty of variety. It contains broccoli, corn, black beans and red peppers. If you often feel the need to prepare several different vegetables side dishes in order to please all the members of the family, this product can save you the trouble. Several bags can be cooked and then the vegetables can be separated using a slotted spoon to ensure that every family member gets a serving of vegetables they enjoy.

One three fourth of a cup of these frozen vegetables contains only sixty calories. There is absolutely no Fat in this product as well as no Cholesterol. There is only fifty milligrams of Sodium in each serving. This represents only two percent of the daily recommended value. There is twelve grams of Total Carbohydrate per serving, as well as three grams of Dietary Fiber. For those consumers looking to reduce their Sugar intake, it is very good news that this frozen vegetable dish contains a scant three grams of Sugar. Additionally, each serving offers three grams of Protein, two percent of Calcium, two percent of Iron thirty percent of Vitamin C. With cold and flu season upon us, it is nice to know that this side dish can offer almost half of the daily recommended value of Vitamin C.

Preparation of Safeway Santa Fe Style Vegetables couldn't be easier. To steam the vegetables to a nice crisp, simply fill the bottom of your steamer with water and bring it to a boil. The entire contents of the bag get placed on top of the steamer and covered. After only three to four minutes, the vegetables are beautifully crisp and flavorful. Using this method, the product will not get soggy at all, which is a real plus. If microwaving your side dishes is more you cooking style, empty the contents of the bag into a two quart dish and add two tablespoons of water. The vegetables then get cooked for three minutes. Remove the dish from the microwave and give it a good stir. Place it back in the oven and cook for an additional three to four minutes until desired consistency is achieved.

This terrific frozen vegetable product can also be used as the base of a delicious stir fry. Add strips of chicken or beef to the contents and heat with a small amount of oil in a large skillet or wok. I am such a fan of this brand and variety of frozen vegetables that I plan to serve them with my Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. If you are looking for an extra serving of veggies for your holiday meals, give this Safeway product a try. You may be very surprised when your guests request seconds on the healthier portion of the meal.
