SAG Awards 2010 Winners Virtual Repeat of Golden Globes

Robert Dougherty
The SAG awards 2010 winners are all used to getting honors. In fact, the SAG awards 2010 winners were pretty much the same ones at the Golden Globes. The voters at the Screen Actors Guild probably cast their votes before the Golden Globes. Yet by the end, pretty much everyone who won an 'Actor' also won at the Globes - and has won countless critics awards already. Therefore, the SAG awards 2010 winners likely kept the Oscar race exactly the same.

In both movies and television, the Screen Actors Guild honored virtually everyone who won last week's Golden Globes. The only real differences were that Tina Fey beat Toni Collette for Best Actress in a TV Comedy, and that both Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock didn't win. Otherwise, the SAG awards 2010 winners were an exact repeat.

Alec Baldwin, Michael C. Hall and Julianna Margulies won in television, just like last Sunday. Mad Men and Glee were honored as the best ensembles on television, just like how their shows won the Globe. For Mad Men, it was their second straight SAG victory, while Glee got another big award halfway through their first season.

In the movies, the SAG awards 2010 winners were the same as they've been all season. Christoph Waltz and Mo'Nique were unbeatable once again, while Jeff Bridges extended his newfound lead for Best Actor. In the only tight race left, Sandra Bullock beat Meryl Streep for Best Actress, for her third big victory of the last week.

The Bridges-Bullock-Waltz-Mo'Nique quartet of winners may hold all the way to the Oscars. The four SAG movie winners haven't all won the Oscar since 2005 - particularly since past ceremonies have had an upset or two. But in this 2010 Oscar season, upsets have been few and far between.

Since the SAG awards are for actors, last night's show likely had little effect on Best Picture. However, with Inglourious Basterds winning for Best Ensemble, Quentin Tarantino's epic remains a Best Picture sleeper pick.

At the least, it provided the odd sight of Eli Roth accepting an acting award on their behalf - and was another blow to The Hurt Locker, which lost their second straight major contest. Avatar wasn't nominated in any category, but since The Hurt Locker didn't win anything, the 3D epic maintained its Oscar lead.

The SAG awards 2010 was not a place for suspense and diversity in winners, though few other award shows have been this year. However, the pre-Oscar award shows are now over, and all that is left is to wait for Oscar nominations next Tuesday, then prepare for the final big show. For the television winners, they will go on awards hibernation until Emmy season.
