This is in reference to the trend known as Sagging, where one puts on over size jeans and lets them sag down their rear, showing off their underwear. This craze has led to pants designed to be worn no other way; a belt will not assist with these items of clothing. Suspenders would only be redesigned to allow these droopy drawers to continue to fall below the lines previous thought to be taboo.
It shall be unlawful for any person in any public place or in view of the public to be found in a state of nudity, or partial nudity, or in dress not becoming to his or her sex, or in any indecent exposure of his or her person or undergarments, or be guilty of any indecent or lewd behavior.
This was the wording of a recently passed law in Delcambre, Louisiana. In a town populated by 2,168 people, only twelve people objected before the vote. As anything dealing with black culture, the cry of racially motivated law making was brought to the floor. The Pull-Your-Pants-Up law was passed and now those showing their underwear whilst sagging can be fined. Louisiana is not the only state to engage in this debate. New York, Virginia, and Georgia have included themselves in the dress code argument.
Cities in several states are beginning to, or have, debated on the idea of dress codes. The idea is to remove the obscenity of near nakedness from the view of the public and meant to follow in the footsteps of penal codes dealing in public nudity and sex.
One has to wonder, however, if Sagging is an obscenity or a sign of stupidity. Not to be overly blunt, but my views of those who sag are not ones of disgust, and therefore obscene. No, the views and thoughts that run through my mind are more comedic in nature. Just to view someone sagging is to experience a moment in moronic history.
I have seen many people walking with their legs spread apart just to keep their pants from completely falling down. The type of walk that some consider the "swing" has become a regular occurrence. Putting one foot forward, the walker then swings his other leg around, keeping it straight so that his pants slip and fall to his ankles.
Frankly, since it is mostly men that sag, I feel it has just become another marker in the idiocy that is Man and another weapon for a Females used in the Battle of the Sexes. However, despite my personal views, it has become a large debate where larger black cultures reside.
So, disregarding what culture sagging derives from and racially motivated remarks, the law is purely a dress code law. It is city government deciding what is decent and what is obscene. As stupid as it looks, the obscenity of sagging is negated by the wearing of boxer shorts.
There is really only one way to look at this. The majority of lawmakers are male and these laws being put into affect can be used towards females as well. While females do not sag, they have jeans that are called Low Riders and Hip Huggers. These jeans provide the provocative look of a woman showing her hips and often the straps of their underwear show. As unpopular as my view might be, how many men truly wish this law to affect those low riding, hip hugging clothing for women? This journalist begs the male lawmakers of this nation to take that thought into serious consideration.
