SAG Nominations were announced this morning for outstanding performances in 2009 in both film and television categories. The Screen Actors awards comprise five awards for film including Best Male and Female Actor in a Leading Role, and eight television categories including Best Male and Female Actor in a Drama Series.

The SAG Nominations were announced in Hollywood this morning at the Pacific Design Center's Silver Screen Theater by Michelle Monaghan ("Trucker") and Chris O'Donnell ("NCIS: Los Angeles") who were introduced by Screen Actors Guild President Ken Howard. The stunt ensemble nominations were announced by SAG Awards Committee Chair JoBeth Williams.

SAG nominations included George Clooney for "Up in The Air" and Saundra Bullock for "The Blind Side". Both have been recent movie releases that have done excellent at the box office and had strong performances by both Clooney and Bullock. Well deserved SAG nominations for Best Actress in a Lead Role also went to Gabourey Sidibe for "Precious" and Mo'nique for her Supporting Actress performance in "Precious".

Sag nominations for TV included the new series "The Good Wife", which was surprising to many. "The Good Wife" got nominations for Best Ensemble Cast in a Drama and for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a Drama Series went to lead actress Julianna Margulies. "The Good Wife" is up against other contenders for Best Ensemble Cast for HBO's "True Blood", TNT's "Mad Men" and the hit show "Dexter".

In comedy SAG nominations came in for Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series for the new television hits 'Modern Family' and "Glee". Other comedy SAG nominations included "Two and Half Men", the now-ended "Monk" and "The Office".

The SAG award nominations are decided by the actors' peers in the industry. Over 2,100 Guild members make up the two nominating selection panels: one for television and one for movies. By December 14th all nomination voting had to be completed.

Then the award ballots, going to all of the approximately 100,000 actors and actresses that comprise the Guild, are distributed on Tuesday December 29th, and must be received back by January 21st, 2010.

Watch the 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards broadcast live on TNT and TBS networks on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, 7 p.m. CT, and 6 p.m. MT to see the winners of this year's SAG Awards. The SAG Awards show will be live from the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center. .
