In Houston, Rosenfels comeback ability was on display again. In a game against Tennessee, Sage threw four touchdowns in the 4th quarter, which tied an NFL record. That year, 2007, Sage finished the season 4-1 creating a small QB controversy in Houston. The following year Rosenfels would get to start several games again, when Matt Schaub went down with an injury, but he didn't have the same success.
The Vikings traded for Rosenfels this year, and the quarterback was set to compete with Tarvaris Jackson for the starting quarterback job. The lifelong back-up was finally going to get a chance to begin the season as a starter in the National Football League. Then, just like that, Rosenfels may have lost the job, not to Jackson, but to Brett Favre.
Now of course no one knows how this will play out, if Favre will return, but Sage must be wondering if he'll ever get his chance. If Favre does come back, Sage may be wishing he was back in Houston, where you can almost guarantee Schaub will miss some games with an injury.
Time will tell if Rosenfels ever gets a chance to start a season with a team, and if he'll even be a successful starter. Maybe Rosenfels is destined to be a back up, a Frank Reich, a guy who can come in and get you a win no matter what the score. Every team needs those types of guys. Rosenfels, just wishes for once, that guy was someone else.
