SAHM: Where to Advertise Your New Playgroup

Christie Silvers
When you can't seem to find a playgroup that suits the needs of you and your child, it may be time to start your own. However, every playgroup needs new members from time to time and where do you find those members? Here are a few ideas of where you can advertise your brand new playgroup!

Library Storytime -- Many public libraries set aside a certain day/time of the week to do storytime for the younger kids. Not only can your tike be entertained, but this is a good place to advertise your new playgroup. While the parents are in the background waiting for storytime to be over, you could be passing out fliers or having low volume conversations with nearby parents. Also ask the librarian if there is a neighborhood announcement board somewhere in the library for you to hang up your flier. The librarian may even let you hang it up in the storytime area; just ask first.

Playground/Park -- You local playground and/or park is a fantastic place to advertise your new playgroup. You get to mingle with other parents while your kids play. Chat, hand out fliers, maybe even hang up a few around the play area. The amount of kids and parents make this an ideal location to advertise that you have a brand new playgroup that is taking members.

Daycare -- Does your little one spend time at daycare? Do they have special friends in daycare that they'd like to spend more time without outside of the classroom environment? Then why not invite the parents to join you new playgroup? The kids will be able to enjoy more time together and you'll get to meet new parents. Making daycare a great place to advertise your new playgroup.

Church -- If you are a member of a church, or religious group, then you have one of the best places to advertise your playgroup right at your fingertips. Some of the bigger churches even have nurseries for the babies and toddlers to play during services. If they allow it, you can hang fliers in the nursery, or hand out fliers/business cards to the parents as they come to drop off or pick up their kids.

Pediatrician's Office -- The pediatrician's office is an excellent place to meet new parents. There are all sorts of parents with children of all ages just waiting for their chance to see the doctor. I wouldn't suggest going into your playgroup pitch when parents are worried about their sick children though. You may want to stick to the well-baby side of the office and those parents who are just there for check-ups and immunizations. However, your pediatrician's office may also have a bulletin board that you can post a flier to that is in clear view of the waiting room.

These are just a small sampling of the numerous places that you can use as a way to advertise your new playgroup. Hopefully with enough advertisement you'll have an influx of brand new members knocking on your door with their little ones in tow. Time to make plans for that first scheduled playtime!

Joined a neighborhood playgroup/babysitter-trading some 20+ yrs ago... My kids bonded with a particular other family of kids... As the kids aged and went their own ways, we mammas remained bonded and today it's safe to say we are still BFF's - Even through moves to many states between us, we make a point to stay in touch & see each other, as if we were sisters. I never imagined that little playgroup would result in developing a lifetime BFF relationship ;-)
