The tradition of the Blarney stone is a classic Irish tail. Help your kids learn about the Blarney stone while having fun creating their own stone.
Blarney Stone:
In Irish tradition if you kiss the famous Blarney Stone located in the Blarney Castle five miles from Cork, Ireland. Millions of tourists from all over the world kiss the Blarney stone. It is said to bring endows the kisser with the gift of gab, eloquence, and the skill of flattery.
The actual Blarney stone looks more like a wall then a stone, but when making crafts with kids you need to use a little imagination. Create your own fun and sparkly Blarney stone.
You will need:
• Smooth rocks
• Green paint
• Kraft paper or wax paper
• Paintbrush
• Green glitter
• Dixie cup or other small cup
• Googly eyes
• Black permanent marker
• Glue
Paint your rocks green and lay them on your kraft or wax paper. Place a little bit of glitter in a Dixie cup. Gently shake the glitter on top of the wet paint. The paint will help the glitter adhere.
Allow your glittered Blarney stone or stones to dry overnight.
Once dry it is time to decorate your stone. Glue on little eyes and a marker in a smile. You will have a shiny little Blarney stone for your kids to kiss and ravish you with their gift of gab.
If you think about it the glittered stone you just made kind of resembles a pet rock from the 1970's. With this in mind your stone does not have to be green. You can make a glitter craft for just about every season by painting your 'pet rock' the color of the season. Make a red stone for Valentine's Day, a pastel bunch of stones for Easter, an orange stone for Halloween, and a red and green stone for Christmas.
