Saint Peter's Blues, a Poem

Jeffrey Weeks
Don't know that you'd call me a spiritual man
Just kinda figure that God has a plan
Don't spend much time on it
Do what I do and I own it
Swimming downstream along with the tide

Don't know that you'd call me saved
Just kinda took the life that God gave
Don't spend much time on why
I'm not that kinda guy
More into enjoying the ride

Don't feel no need to defend the life I choose
But I hope when I get there
Saint Peter
Ain't got the blues

Don't like to spend too much time sad
Into some good and some bad
Don't know that I'm right
Or if I care tonight
Treading water out in the deep end

Don't like to spend my days asleep
Even when life's got me beat
Gonna roll like that stone
Something might be going on
Better than what was on where I been

Don't feel no need to defend the life I choose
But I hope when I get there
Saint Peter
Ain't got the blues

Now I hope on the day that I pass
Saint Peter ain't dragging his ass
Hope his wife ain't been giving him hell
Hope his job has been working out well
And I hope that he's in a fine, frisky mood

Cause I feel like I got a good case
But it ain't like I'm rolling in grace
I been high, I been low
Hope it's all good you know
When he looks at me and starts to brood

I'm too old for changing my ways
Seen me some fine happy days
Don't feel no need to defend the life I choose
But I just hope when I get there
That old boy
He ain't got the blues
..........

No need to defend your life to anyone, Jeffrey! Each of us was created as a unique person -- just be you! You come across as a really nice person. :)!
