Saitek Eclipse Illuminated: Why You Should Think Twice Before Getting This Saitek Keyboard

Jack Woods
It took a year for me to take a firm decision to buy the Saitek Eclipse Illuminated Keyboard. I bought it when the price dropped down to $29.00. One week of working made me think, that it was better that I only paid $29.00 for it.

I found the Saitek Eclipse Illuminated Keyboard a little flat for me. The jerking of the rear supports gave me a feeling like typing on a laptop. The lame rear supports often frightened me, that they will break under the fingers of a "heavy typist" like me. I have been a computer professional since 1979, and hence I felt that the keys on the Saitek Eclipse Illuminated Keyboard looked odd, as if they were not of the standard size. There were some issues with hitting the correct keys, every now and then. The left shift key was always a cause of trouble, as I had to fix my errors quite often. The top row function keys were seriously small in size. The keys of Saitek Eclipse Illuminated Keyboard never made any sound while typing. This was good, as it wouldn't want to disturb others. The Saitek Eclipse Illuminated Keyboard bows in the middle while using the center keys, or the space bar. This was some very unusual for me, and it seemed that the keyboard would not last very long.

A dark room suited very well for the keyboard, since the keys were more visible when seated directly above the Saitek Eclipse Illuminated Keyboard, or when placed on the lap in the darkness. It was of great use for late night work sessions. The keys were not vivid in the broad day light. There were options to set the key lightning to high/ low/ or off. I always turned it off in the light. My seating position, which was parallel to the Saitek Eclipse Illuminated Keyboard, made the key lighting option useless. I was delighted with the volume control. But it was of little use, since once in a while I required to use the media transport controls, like play/ stop/ prev/ next. The Saitek Eclipse Illuminated Keyboard was quite suitable for late night video editing though.

Saitek Eclipse Illuminated Keyboard is the perfect choice for anyone who likes fine illumination, tiny keys, and volume controls. But for a prolonged use, it's better to go for a non-lighted keyboard at a reasonable price of about $ 10.00 from any online retailer, or a nearby outlet store. You could get a reasonably priced piece of hardware, such as the Logitech G series, for a good, lighted keyboard with efficient performance.
