Sal Alosi will likely face a fine or suspension after the coach leaned into the playing field and tripped Miami Dolphin cornerback Nolan Carroll during a play Sunday.

The New York Jets strength and conditioning angered the Jets and will likely face stiff punishment for his actions.

The 33-year-old Alosi, a coach who's been in the NFL with Atlanta and the Jets for nine years, apologized after the game.

"I made a mistake that showed a total lapse in judgment," he said in a public statement. "My conduct was inexcusable and unsportsmanlike and does not reflect what this organization stands for."

Jets spokesman Bruce Speight said the organization was "looking into appropriate next steps."

Carroll stayed in the game had Miami's only interception in his team's 10-6 win. He was the only one of the Jets that didn't seem upset. "I just remember running," Carroll said. "Water off a duck's back."

His teammates were far more angry.

"I wish they'd tripped me," linebacker Channing Crowder said. "I'd have broken that old man's leg. I didn't see anything. He stuck his leg out and tripped him? He should be ashamed of himself. A grown man from the coaching staff? That's high character."

"It's the Jets right?" said Ricky Williams, "We're not surprised."

There is no word yet on what fine or suspension the Jets coach Sal Alosi will face after his trip was caught on video, but they should be weighty.
