The restaurant is quaint and prettily decorated with floral paintings and tile mosaics. Intimate four-chair tables fill the dining area along with a row of elegant booths to the side. A full bar lines the opposite end, but after trying to order a Sam Adams, my partner and I discovered that the owners are still in the process of obtaining their liquor license. We hope this is not too lengthy a process because a bottle of red wine would really complement a dinner at Sala's.
Our pleasant and helpful waitress ran through a very extensive list of dinner specials, all of which sounded tempting. I must admit, it took a long time to thoroughly study the menu - it's that big! And if Greek food just isn't your cup of tea, don't sweat it. Sala's menu boasts a vast selection of American food too. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, many of the items offered are meatless, which pleased my vegetarian sister.
I finally settled on the Moussaka, a decadent loaf of eggplant with layers of lamb meat. It was creamy, rich, and the spices were to die for. My meal came with a choice of rice or potato - I opted for the rice, and was pleased when a heaping pile arrived on my dinner plate.
My partner chose the traditional Gyro with succulent lamb meat. Instead of rice he ordered the Greek potatoes, which were glazed with a delicious tangy sauce. Both meals included enormous (I'm not using that word lightly) Greek salads with plenty of feta cheese, tomatoes and onions. We were also served a side of flat pita bread. It's a good thing we were both hungry - even so, there was enough for us to take home a pair of doggy bags.
It may have been due to the fact that there were only 2 other occupied tables (it was very late in the evening), but we were served our meals almost immediately. Quick service is always appreciated when mouth-watering Greek food is on its way!
While on the pricier end of dining out, Sala's certainly gives you more bang for your buck. Considering the mammoth-sized portions they dished out, I'd say it's a reasonable trade-off.
Towards the end of our meal, I overheard one of the employees chatting with a couple seated to our left: "Do you know what 'Sala' means? Well, it actually refers to a 'cozy parlor' or a 'saloon' of sorts."
I couldn't think of a more fitting title for such a charming, welcoming place to dine out.
Sala's is located at 9780 Main Street in Clarence, New York. It is opened from 7 am until 10 pm daily.

Post a Comment...I have to say I never heard the sound of the microwave going off, but i learned yesterday that Salas is out of business. Must have been for a week or so. I always enjoyed the Gyro platter which was massive and the server were super nice. Hate to see them being gone....
It cut me off.....If you like microwaved, old food this is the place for you. If you're looking for fresh, tasty, Greek food - go somewhere else.
You can hear the microwave door being opened and closed and the beep of the buttons. It was shameful. If I wanted microwaved food I'd have stayed home.
The bottom line is that this place is overpriced and they serve old, microwaved food. I don't see a future for these guys. I'll be surpised if they last more than a year. It's awful.
I didn't like this place at all. There was nobody in the restaurant when we arrived and it's no wonder. The food was served fast yes but there's a reason. It was microwaved!!
If I wanted microwaved food I'd have had a frozen dinner at home. This was terrible. We ordered the Saganaki to start. This cheese is usually served at the table in a pan where they quickly flambe it to heat it up. This was microwaved and it was gross. It was too hard to even cut with a steak knife at the edges and cold in the centre. There were brown spots like fish fillets sometimes have. Very unappetizing.
My hubby had the chicken souvlaki. It was a large portion but it too was heated in a microwave. I had the moussaka. It had a cinnamon taste to it but it was stale, I have no idea how long ago it was made and it and my Greek potatoes were microwaved.
The bechemel sauce was tough and hard to put my fork through. There was a thick skin to the top of it. The potatoes heated in a microwave and doused with
That is pretty outrageous - I just ordered water so I had no idea.
Salas is a nice restuarant. They serve very good food at a moderate price. So. Why charge for a refill on a soda when your sitting down having a meal. A few beveragaes were ordered along with a couple sodas. What surprise when we looked at the bill and we saw 12.00 for three people ordering pepsi. Give me a break. Until i see all of wny doing this i wont go back to Salas. That is very unreasonable.
