1. Put together a comprehensive sales and marketing plan. This plan should cover and include your marketing goals for your business, information and research about your target market. Your marketing and sales budget, your customer care policy and much more. Remember that having and producing a Sales and Marketing Plan and budget is key to marketing and selling any and every business.
2. Find out what your customers want. You know your business, your target market and your target audiences better than anybody else so use this knowledge to your advantage. Find out what marketing and sales your customers/potential customers respond to, and what they don't. Do this through market research and do this before you launch any marketing campaign or even spend any money on sales and marketing - It will save you marketing dollars and pounds in the long run.
3. Find out what sales and marketing your competitors are doing. Find out how much they spend, what has worked and what hasn't. Conduct some competitor research and find out what future campaigns they have coming up - try to stay ahead of the game. Don't just copy what they are doing, Instead try to focus and work on selling and marketing your business, and your USP (Unique Selling Point).
TOP TIP: Remember that you don't have to have a mega marketing and sales budget to compete with your competitors, instead you just need to think smart and think outside of the box. Be creative and be more personal than your competitors when it comes to your marketing and sales.
4. Decide what you want to achieve, Set both sales and marketing aims, targets and goals. Set goals based on what you want to achieve and what you want to get out of your marketing and sales, both in the short term and the long term. Remember to set goals, aims and targets that are SMART - By this I mean set goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timed.
5. Research what methods of marketing and sales are out there and available to you and then produce a Marketing Mix (to include all of the methods of sales and marketing you would like to use or tryout), a Marketing plan (to help you define goals, set targets and stay on track with both your sales and marketing), and a Marketing budget (to help keep you financially on track)
TOP TIP: Remember when marketing and selling your business try to focus on one thing at a time. Don't try to do too many things all at the same time, as you wont be able to see or even measure the results, to find out what works and what doesn't.
