As you desperately look for a part-time job, you may find yourself going down rabbit trails of empty promises--from a myriad of online schemes-- to "You can be rich in real estate" seminars (where there are only a few who are getting rich on your seminar fees). With so much hype-and-jive to sort through, you may wonder if there are any good, legitimate part- time jobs available? The short answer is, "yes"!
Sales Jobs as part-time income or as a full-time career
Sales is a career that can be extremely lucrative. Some find it easy and others find it gut-wrenching. Having said this, you might be putting yourself in category two at this point. You may be surprised to discover that you are a great candidate for becoming a salesperson, however. Several factors will help you determine if sales is right for you.
Six questions to ask if you are considering a career in sales:
Do you have "courage" to do what needs to be done in unknown situations, or had to be the leader in a situation that you lacked experience?
This can be something as simple as helping direct traffic on a lonely road when there is a traffic accident. You may not be trained in paramedics or traffic control-but you stepped up and did what needed to be done in the situation, saving lives in the process. This ability to think under pressure and act with courage is a a skill needed in sales. You may be a sales person.
Perhaps you have been called on to head up a group for your organization. Your job will be leader of the group. You may not have a degree in leadership, but you can take on the role of a Boy Scout leader, classroom contact person, and little league coach. You may be a salesperson.
Do you have an "entrepreneurial spirit"?
Have you ever taken it upon yourself to try something new? Maybe you went skydiving or took piano lessons. Having an entrepreneurial spirit doesn't mean you want to conquer the business world, it simply means you have the drive to try new things. You may be a salesperson.
Do you like to network?
People who like to hang out with people are "networking". If you belong to a club, organization, church, or online community like Face Book, Hub Pages and Twitter--you are a "networker". You spend your day hanging out and sharing stuff with people. You may be a salesperson.
Can you see "the positive side" in many situations?
For instance: One day it was raining outside and your son said, "I hate the rain. I can't go outside". If you replied, "We need the rain. It will help with the drought. I am thankful for the rain"--you saw the glass half-full. You can see the positive in situations. You may be a salesperson.
Are you a good listener?
If you find that people like to talk to you, it is probably because you are a good listener. Sales is not just having a command of speech--it is also being able to actively listen to others. You may be a salesperson.
Have you ever had to convince someone to do something they were reluctant to do because it was in their best interest?
If you are a parent you have done this. How many times do you have to get your kids to do things they don't want to do. Sometimes you are even able to do it in such a way that they are happy about it! You may be a salesperson.
After taking a closer look at the skills needed to be in sales, how do you answer the question about a career in sales now? So many of us have misconceptions of what it takes to be in sales. The truth is, much of what you may do in your day-to-day life is in essence what you would have to do in sales. You may want to seriously consider a career in sales.
