Salma Hayek-New Celebrity Mom

MisterSteve
Google consistently ranks Salma Hayek in the top search terms. Celebrity can be it's own hype machine, putting the starlet's face in front of the audience so often it simulates it's own buzz. Instead of journalists asking event based questions, now the normal procedure is to ask what is happening with our celebrity media darlings? What is Salma Hayek wearing? What is Salma Hayek doing? What is Salma Hayek thinking?

The metamorphosis of entertainment media into a name dropping, celebrity centered industry was many years in the making. It is by no means a new phenomenon. TV Guide carried CHiPs photo spreads and in-depth news on Eric Estrada and that other guy for years, until Eric Estrada got deported. Any male child past puberty in the early eighties can relate to the Farrah Fawcett poster sensation. You either had the poster, or you didn't have tennis elbow, there was no middle ground. What has changed with the advent of celebrity status of Salma Hayek's caliber and exposure is the abundance of information and photos of the celebrity in question. Fans can Google Salma Hayek and read every minute detail of their idols' lives, from birth to modern day. In an age of information overload, celebrity privacy is nearly non-existent.

The only way to retain any vestige of privacy would be to completely sequester the celebrity from public view, in a tower in a distant land perhaps. Only those worthy of Salma Hayek's attentions and affections on camera would be allowed to climb the rope spun and woven from her own hair and enter the private chambers of Salma Hayek for an extravagant evening of looking over their shoulder for Zorro.

In any situation involving celebrity super stars like Salma Hayek, it would surely be wise to consider the ramifications of the overexposure endless gossip can bring. Being Google's top search can be a curse, as Google is designed for use by stalkers, crazy people and Texans. Although, due to literacy problems, Texans are less of a threat. But the rest of the wackos can sometimes read and formulate basic sentences, such as ''Wanna cyber?'' and ''A/S/L?'' Add to this crazy melting pot of media hype and over exposure a celebrity child, born into the spotlight, oblivious to his or her own fame. Raising a child can be a tumultuous endeavor under the best of circumstances, living the celebrity lifestyle surely adds some difficulty to the equation.

The matter of security springs to mind, the natural concern a parent has for their child, compounded by the knowledge that any number of unsavory characters would view an unattended celebrity infant an opportunity for ransom or worse, would surely spur the celebrity mom to all sorts of extremes. What about education? How hard is it to keep your child on track when he has so many distractions available?

In interviews Salma Hayek has confessed to being spoiled as a child, spoiled rotten, as the saying goes. There is certainly no question of whether she is able to spoil her children, her movie and television appearances alone have earned her enough to buy a small country, possibly Hayekannia, or Hayekistan. Imagine a child with parents of such resources; It's unlikely they will ever want for anything. Amongst reports of celebrity nannies being used and abused, it's hard to believe the glamorous Salma Hayek could ever be mean to anyone. Just ask best pal Penelope Cruz, who very nearly gushes with praise for Miss Hayek.

As soon as Salma Hayek's publicist, Ina Treciokas, announced the pregnancy and engagement to billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, it's very likely that best wishes flowed from a great many sources. Hayek's fiancé is the 74th richest person on Earth, and no doubt has many admirers. Pinault is the CEO of of luxury goods firm PPR, which owns Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent, as well as a French department store and national music chain. The Pinault family fortune is estimated in excess of $7 billion. With such opulent wealth fiscal security is a given, not even taking into consideration the amount of money Salma Hayek earns on her own with movies and television, such as her executive producer position on Ugly Betty, a very popular show on network television.

"Motherhood is not for everyone," Salma Hayek was quoted in Marie Claire's May issue. "It is for me, but there's no reason women should feel rushed to have a child....Society thinks if you don't have children, you've failed as a woman, even if you are CEO of a company." She went on to say that society has an unfair view of women in media, expecting an impossibly perfect standard that is not imposed upon the opposite gender. Being skinny, beautiful and a perfect mom undoubtedly is an impossible standard that she says has been a constant source of pressure to her as an actress.

Michal Urie, who plays on Ugly Betty, has stated that Salm Hayek will be a natural when it comes to motherhood. "She's a great boss so I think she'll be a great mom," he told PEOPLE magazine, "....she's really caring. She's like the matriarch of the producers. She's already motherly." Urie went on to say Hayek didn't tell the cast before going public: "We found out same as everyone else....It's not mine. I know, I was disappointed." Hayek and Pinault maintain a low profile, preferring to stay out of the limelight as much as possible. Cast members reported being unaware of most of the details of their relationship, and even the news of her pregnancy was kept from them. In an interview with TV Guide, actress America Ferrera said, "I noticed that she was glowing."

Hayek, a 40-year old Mexican native, studied at Universidad Iberoamericana but left to pursue acting. She starred on Teresa and El Callejon de los Milagros, which received more awards than any film in Mexican cinema history. She also starred in Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, Dogma, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, among others. She is also an Emmy-winning director, as well as film and television producer.
