One of the most important issues with the salt free water softener systems is just how well it actually works. As with any other product, results will vary based on many different factors. This may include the brand that you use, just how "hard" your water is, and what is causing the problem. Many of these salt free water softeners may actually perform just as well if not better than some of the other leading water softeners on the market that contain salt.
Why should it matter if your water softener is salt free? For starters, it helps the environment. Unlike traditional water systems, there will be no sodium released into the environment. It's a small way of doing your part for mother Earth. Although it may seem like a minor problem, the sodium leaked into the environment can have adverse affects. By choosing a salt free water softener you are being environmentally responsible while solving a legitimate household problem.
Salt free water softener systems are similar in price to the traditional water softeners. As a matter of fact, the same water services that offer the salt systems are now starting to offer the salt free as well. Even when the cost is somewhat higher, it is usually only a small difference and is still saving the consumer time and money. Prices will also vary, it is recommended that the consumer shop around before deciding upon any one service or treatment.
Keep in mind, while salt free water softeners are effective they may not be ideal for every home. This is especially so if there are underlying causes to the hard water. Getting your water tested before having any system installed is always a good idea.
