Salvation: What it is and How to Get It

A Biblical Guide

Myranda Morgan
How can I be saved? Why do so many different types of people claim to have received salvation through Jesus Christ? What does the Bible say about salvation? This article will answer those questions.

If you are at a point in your life where you feel broken by the sinful things you have done in life, there is someone who can make you whole again. Following is a Biblical guide to salvation through Jesus Christ.

Realize that you are a sinner in need of salvation.Rom. 3:23

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."

This verse simply echoes what most people already know -- that no one is perfect and all are in need of salvation.

No matter how good we may look on the outside, inside each of us dwells the shame of a misspoken word or unwise decision that hurt another person.

The deeds and thoughts that we would never admit to a fellow human being are known to God. Maybe this is not comfortable for some to read, but if those people will be honest with themselves they will know exactly what I am talking about.

Admit that you cannot save yourself. Titus 3:5

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us..."

This is a big one. No one can achieve salvation through their own efforts. To try and earn salvation is futile; Jesus did it all.

Believe that Jesus Christ came into the world and gave His life to save sinners. John 3:16

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

This is one of the most well-known Bible verses concerning salvation in the world. But what does it mean?

It means that God loves every human being so much that He sacrificed His Son to wash away our sins. God wants fellowship with us despite our sins.

Repent of your sins. Acts 2:38

"Then Peter said unto them, repent..."

Repentance is the act of turning away from those sins that have separated us from God. This act does not mean that you will never sin again. It simply means that you are agreeing to not willingly commit outright sin that you know will displease God.

Confess your sins to God. 1 John 1:9

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Confessing one's sins to God is a way of acknowledging those sins as sin.

Call upon Jesus Christ in sincere and earnest prayer. John 14:13

"And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son." -- Jesus Christ

Friend, if you are not saved, Jesus Christ is waiting at the door to your heart. It matters not to Him how much money you have. He doesn't care what kind of car you drive or where you live. What you have or have not done doesn't change His love for you. What matters is that you are honestly seeking fellowship with God. Whether your worst sin is jaywalking or murder, if you prayerfully seek Him, He will not turn you away.

I see this as misapplied advertisement, not an article. I'll tell you the same thing I'd tell Pepsi or Wal-Mart if they were plastering adverts in the guise of articles here; it's a cheap 'volume marketing' tactic that most won't appreciate. Conclusion: irrelevant.

Myranda, some will likely criticize you for this article. If so, don't be discouraged by it -- you may never know who needed to read it.
